Its so funny, the "not a dual hose " and "not an inverter" people hijack every portable and window AC thread but there never show up to these (pretty much) useless swamp cooler posts.

Long story short, unless you live somewhere with LOW humidity, these will only make you feel HOTTER since they are adding humidity to the air. Especially indoor use.

They do add humidity, agreed. However, the evaporative cooling does drop temps down by 5-8 degrees.

Evaporative cooling only works if your humidity is low enough (evaporation takes place fast enough to make it matter) to support it. Which rules out pretty much the entire Southeastern US* 100% of the year or a lot more of the US during the warmer months. Also, 5-8 deg may sound great, but you are also dumbing in damp air into a house...which can cause so many problems to mold to allergies to rot...you name it.

But yes, they do have their very selective use case, mostly for short term use, however to my point, a single hose works in every place a dual hose portable AC does. Just in theory...slightly less efficiently. But for normally half the price, that should hardly be a surprise.

*For example, I live in NC, these things just make things worse unless you live in the mountains but then you'd never need one. Same goes for any state that touches NC or even touches those. Also I work in HVAC so know a thing or two about the concept since humanity is half the battle in building health / comfort.

So he knows a thing or two about a thing or two...and you're right humanoid half the battle. Smilie

. This is a great idea for millions of people in many states. We have two AC units in our home in addition to a large evaporative cooler. We have experimented over the years. We now keep the AC units off as long as we can and use the Evap...because it saves us a humanity saving ton of money. This in turn save humanity from me.

My point was, it isn't if this is good or bad, but people act (in...every...single...post...) like a "single" hose legit AC flat out doesn't work. Yet they ignore the fact something like a swamp cooler DOES NOT WORK for many use cases, entire regions of the country, or outside a very narrow window of temps. On the opposing side, a single hose AC works as intended no matter where on earth you live and even outputs the BTU's it is rated for, just in theory is less efficient. But even that is highly dependent on the model and manufacturer. That's like pretending a 4 cylinder car always gets better miles per gallon vs a 6 when that isn't even a decent rule of thumb. Also people love to claiming the exhausting of air from a fan that is roughly equal to a bath fan is going to somehow draw in a house full of hot air through their walls...which is absurd. If your house is that poorly built (or old), you got much better problems than a $200 portable AC. Break out the caulk and weather stripping Wink

*All that being said, these work great if you happen to live with the correct conditions and understand their limitations.
