For those unaware why this model pen is recommended for writing checks: There is a supposed uptick in check washing schemes where someone steals a legitimate written check and uses chemicals to remove all the ink except for the signature, turning it into a blank check. This recently happened with property tax checks mailed in California. The gel ink in this model pen bonds to the paper in such a way that it is much more difficult to wash away than standard ink.
