Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 smart glasses stand out as easy, casual POV cameras that also work as sunglasses and audio glasses. The upgraded battery life and ultra wide 3K video are the main Gen 2 improvements, and the footage is described as solid for assembly clips, outdoor sports, and short highlight videos. Recording is limited to vertical video, with 3 minute, 1 minute, and 30 second modes, so longer captures can feel awkward. The bright recording LED cannot be disabled, and privacy concerns remain a real drawback. A practical pick if short, hands free clips matter more than stealth or horizontal video.
Creators filming POV assembly clips, because the vertical 3K footage is described as looking good and the short recording modes stitch quickly.
Outdoor exercisers and casual sports users, because the glasses work like a lightweight camera with sunglasses and headphones while handling grip and water well.
Parents or event shooters who need long horizontal clips, because recording is vertical only and longer videos are awkward without switching to a phone.
Users expecting dependable battery life over years, because Gen 1 batteries died at the 24-month mark and Gen 2 battery life is still described as poor.
The glasses are widely viewed as a privacy risk because they visibly record with a front LED and have been associated with concerns about human review of captured footage. If privacy is a priority, they are a poor fit for discreet recording.
Gen 2's main upgrades are reportedly double the battery life and ultra-wide 3K video, plus a few more styles. Even so, battery life is still described as not great by some Gen 1 owners.
The Gen 2 records vertically only, so it is built for Shorts-style clips rather than horizontal video. That makes it less suitable for long-form or kid-capture footage if you need landscape framing.
It offers 3-minute, 1-minute, and 30-second recording modes. The shorter modes are useful for quick highlights and faster stitching, while longer captures may be better handled with a phone or neck mount.
No, the front recording LED cannot be disabled. It stays visible when you take a photo or start recording, which makes the glasses less discreet than a smartphone for filming.
Not necessarily. When you get discovered recording people in private settings and somebody knocks out a few of your teeth for you, you're gonna have to make sure you have separate dental coverage.
There is no way to disable the obnoxious bright LED light for recording either, so using your smartphone to record the "old fashioned" way is literally more discreet than these.
There are also cheaper, more discreet, fully capable smart glasses available on Amazon for ~$100
Good as a casual easy to use gopro that essentially has both sunglasses and Shokz headphones built in. A bit better waterproof and grip and id have no complaints for outdoor sports (the Oakley version essentially is what i want but theyre ugly and expensive)
The AI stuff is pretty useless and not a reason to purchase
Just know if you purchase you will get shade from literally everyone in the world who seems to want these to fail. Popular opinion is it's a spy camera with AI brain rot built in
Try LensCrafters. They offer 50% lens and 15% off frames. If you have insurance, it can be cheaper. I got a pair of Blayzer with high prescription and transition for $730 all in with KP insurance.
People will rightfully treat you as a pervert for wearing these pervert glasses. The stuff they record is reviewed by actual people - not AI - and often includes private details that implies that these are recording even when the owner seems unaware.

KP? As in Kaiser insurance?

keep in mind the videos are vertical. I have the gen2, and i was pretty disappointed in the quality and non-horizontal video.
I'm not sure where this 3k is coming from. The resolution might be high, but it's just bad quality.
If you are trying to capture the precious time with your kids, try out the cheaper ones, if they can do horizontal videos.
I did not know this when I purchased it. Maybe, wait for Gen3.

The glasses can record in 3-minute, 1-minute, or 30-second modes for different shooting needs.
The Gen 2 model is described as improving battery life and adding ultra-wide 3K video.
The glasses can work well for POV-style assembly videos with footage that looks good for that use.
The deal price can be substantially lower than an alternative purchase path for some buyers.
The glasses reportedly record only vertically, which can limit video quality for non-Shorts capture.
Battery performance is a concern, with Gen 1 batteries reportedly dying around the 24-month mark and Gen 2 battery described as not great.
The recording LED light cannot be disabled, which can reduce discretion compared with a smartphone.
The recording workflow can require repeatedly pressing record, which may get annoying at events.
