You can get an aftermarket battery for $40 on amazon and even less on aliexpress for these if it turned out to be crap.

I have the same laptop but with 32 gig RAM and it does everything I need. I have VM's running, browsing etc...not a single problem.

For $750. Air will run a lot faster yes but this has the 16" screen which is much better as long as you don't need they extra cpu power

This essentially boils down to the screen and storage. If you want the buttery screen and 1tb of storage with less CPU performance than an M3 or M4 with 256gb storage and regular display at a similar price, then go for it. The screen is one of my favorite things about my M1 Pro. But I also get that a lot of people couldn't care less about it. All a matter of preference.
