Do not purchase these without checking your building department
You are correct, but I still think it's crazy that towns insist on a permit for a clearly non permanent completely open structure. Even if it's getting bolted to a slab it's still not a whole lot different from a big umbrella, maybe the 10x20 I can understand, but not the smaller ones.
Great price point on this pergolas but I recommend aluminum version for longevity and less maintenance if you are willing to spend more.
Costco has aluminum version of this for $2500 so almost 50% extra than this you will spend.
We're about to spend 10x this much (or more) on a double carport. These are always so tempting, but it's apples and oranges -- custom wood vs prefab metal..
If I had a perfectly flat driveway and one small car, this would honestly be pretty perfect.
I've never heard of anyone needing a permit for a prefab metal carport, but YMMV. They're probably too low value for anyone to care about taking a cut. Like a treehouse or small resin shed.
Probably not, but if the high winds come consistently from the same general direction, you may be ok. I have the aluminum version of this and I keep the louvers partially open so wind comes through. It's also oriented so the the wind goes in the direction of the louvers vs. Against them. We had damage from winds when we kept louvers fully open. Having them partially open to allow wind to flow through but not against was the key.

To seek clarification, if this thing is up against your house, you would tilt it so the blade is angled toward the ground away from your house (since your house should block the wind coming from the other direction)?

So the wind coming at the louvers hits the louvers like a bike going off a ramp, shooting the wind upwards?
