This same filter in the 1" format is tested. It has the forth best results when dirty only being beaten by a 2" and 4" filter and one of those crappy filters you can see through. The high merv rating 3m filters have like double to three times the amount of filtering media. It's in the review. They have more surface area to let air through. They don't stress the system any more than other filters. Buying a poor quality filter is the biggest factor.
Seems like costco are having discount for a lot of filters. Glad I didn't grab those few days ago while I was there.
On the other hand, the filters from HD fit too loosely that I have to add a spacer. F inches.
