ThermoMaven X2 is a wireless meat thermometer that stands out for long range and simple base-only use, with the display base able to go wherever you are and no phone app required. The probes are described as accurate enough for everyday cooking, and the X2 is often preferred over Bluetooth models and even MEATER because it avoids app hassles and connection issues. The main drawbacks are inconsistent coupon checkout behavior, occasional signal trouble with foil, and a few reports of probe accuracy, size, or battery-life problems. A practical pick if you want standalone monitoring and stronger range.

  • Pitmasters who want to monitor a cook from across the house, because sub-1G reaches farther and penetrates walls better than regular Wi‑Fi.

  • Cooks who prefer using the base instead of a phone app, because it works standalone without Bluetooth and app setup.

  • Grillers who want a thermometer that is easier to use than app-tied models, because it avoids phone dependence and works well at close range.

  • Home cooks tracking foil-wrapped meat, because the probes still work well even though the signal can be blocked by foil.

  • Users who rely on phone-app monitoring, because the X2 has no Bluetooth or app connection.

  • Precision cooks who need tight probe accuracy, because one unit reported probes reading 10° and 12° off.

  • People cooking with foil-wrapped meat at long range, because the wireless signal can be blocked by foil.

  • Cooks who need dependable operation every time, because the app and connection can work only about one-third of the time.

Both are great. They share the same basic functionality when it comes to the probes, setting up your cook and tracking it. However they are slightly different on "how" you can do this. The base of the P2 model that you purchased only connects to the probes by wi-fi but it also has bluetooth that allows you to connect, set and track your cook with your phone via the ThermoMaven app. The base of this X2 model doesn't have bluetooth or app, but it connects by wi-fi or Sub-1G... the latter giving it significantly longer range than regular wi-fi. If you are like me and only like using the base, the X2 is better. But if you want to connect with your phone, the P2 version is better.
Thanks for the information. So G2 has long range but still use the app.

The subspace version of this is best, you know it's fully cooked before you even put it on the grill.

I prefer the P2 model, especially for smoker work.

I had the 4 probe version of this. It lasted 1.5 years before 1 probe quit working. Now it won't hold a charge so it's dead every time I try to use it.

I have both but not sure what to keep. X2 is newer and doesn't require an app while G2 does. Why do you say this? I just want to learn which one is better so I can return the other.
The base functionality (probes, temp setting, ambient temp, etc.) of these two and a third model (P2) is pretty much the same in all three. The main difference is how you connect with the probes during a cook:

X2: 2 connections - Base connects with wi-fi and sub-1G...no bluetooth or phone app

P2: 2 connections - Base connects with wi-fi only but also has bluetooth for connection with phone via app

G2: 3 connections - Base connects with wi-fi and sub-1G but also has bluetooth for connection with phone via app

I prefer to use the base over connecting to my phone so I am using the X2.

I think if you're near your phone all the time and at home, probably.

Wish I went with this brand over meater which has non stop connection issues, the most asinine way to charge the block and probes too.

I think its the app itself that having the issue not the code/link. They work 1/3 of the time atm.
