Soldered RAM or no? Pretty darn good deal either way though

Edit: after googling, seems like it's upgradable ram and storage. Very nice.

16 GB RAM should be illegal with these specs

This MSI Vector 16 pairs an RTX 5070 Ti and Core Ultra 7 255HX with upgradeable RAM and storage, making it appealing as a high-spec gaming laptop. The 144Hz panel is the biggest weak point, with the FHD plus screen called out for poor color and brightness, and the 16GB memory config feels light for these specs. Battery life is framed as backup use rather than gaming on the go. The overall appeal is strong hardware at the price, but the display and base memory hold it back.

Common Questions (5)

Yes. The RAM and storage appear to be upgradable, which matters on a 6 lb gaming laptop with only 16GB installed. That makes it easier to move to 32GB later if you want more headroom for games and multitasking.

16GB can be enough for gaming and browser use, with one report showing around 13GB in use under a heavy real-world workload. The downside is that this spec tier is commonly expected to have 32GB, so upgrading may be worthwhile if you keep many apps open or want more future-proofing.

The panel is a 144Hz FHD+ screen, but it is also described as 45% NTSC and 300 nits, which points to weak color and brightness. A 1600p display is specifically called out as the better version because it offers better color and response time.

It has a battery, but it is mainly for backup rather than gaming. Expect only a few hours of web browsing at best, while gaming is meant to be done plugged in.
KeithY9797
There are reports of random blue screens and failures even after a fresh Windows install, updated drivers, and swapping RAM and NVMe. That suggests the laptop can have quality-control problems despite the strong specs.

At 6 lbs, the RAM better be upgradable.

No one should buy this laptop due to the screen. This the FHD+ screen is horrible. If it came with their 1600p screen it would be a no brainer. Better color and responsed time with the 1600p screen. You can probably undervolt this intel chip to get better temps vs the amd version.

Definitely need at least 32GB of RAM in a system like this. Too bad RAM upgrades still cost so much Mad

it is a gaming laptop. it has a rtx 5070ti. yes, it has a battery, but mainly serve as a battery backup. i guess you can probably squeeze a few hours of web browsing when you are not gaming. but otherwise, it is not meant to game on a battery.

Very good deal. I just prefer a desktop for gaming and a mac laptop. It's kinda the best of both worlds.
