Much of his methodology is flawed and not science but somehow he's convinced people it's science by calling the site Audio Science Review. The audio world is also very subjective and personal, so you might love something that measures like crap and hate something that measures perfectly. There's a reason Amir won't leave his ASR sanctuary because he gets clowned on everywhere else. Even the founder of HeadFi (and CanJam) called him out on his BS.

To set some expectations, these sound less like neutral studio headphones, but more like home HiFi speakers. The frontally-located headphone drivers interact with your outer ears more, so you need to experiment the first time you wear them to find your own personal sweet spot (I've been able to find that spot easily ever since), and it will sound very unclear and muffled if worn backwards by accident. The cables plug in FIRMLY with a "pop" to the earcups, but if they're not plugged in all the way the headphones will sound unclear and muffled. The clearest sound quality will come from a DAC/amp with the LOWEST possible output impedance (in ohms); I was pretty happy with my FiiO BTR15 and Questyle dongles. The clamp is less than the HD 650, and overall I found them lightweight and comfortable, but the OAE1 headband doesn't extend as far for large heads as the HD 600 series. As a bald guy, I do wish the headband was more similar to the HD 650 or 660S2, but the OAE1 headband is just "average" comfort for me, the earpads are above-average comfortable.
Overall, I liked them for music, movies, and especially games with a bit of Spatial Audio/surround processing. Since I think people generally like bass and low fatigue, I thought more people would like it; I was surprised opinions were so divided, and that some reviewers literally spent months making content and posting on the impressions threads about how they didn't like them. I got a second pair in case my first wears out.

Do they sound like $200 list price headphones? No, that price must have been a stretch.
Do they sound good for $40? Yes, these are a bargain for the right kind of music.
While I prefer the Drop HD58X and Sony MDR-1A over these, for $40...it's hard to hate these unless you have a large head and/or dislike cans with heavy bass focus and recessed treble.
