Verbatim DVD plus R Life Series blanks are being treated as a low cost option for archiving, backups, and burning movies or TV shows. The discs are described as holding up well over time, with examples of media still reading after nearly 18 to 23 years. The main drawback is that Life Series is the cheaper Verbatim line, not the premium AZO dye version, and these are not dual layer discs. That makes them a practical pick for basic storage when capacity and top tier media quality are not the priority.

  • These DVD+R discs can read fine even after many years of storage, which supports using them for long-term backups.

  • DVD+R media can be a practical offline backup option for people who do not want to rely on cloud services.

  • DVD+R blanks are described as having very good error correction, which can help with long-term data storage.

  • DVD+R can work well for burning large amounts of TV and movies for offline viewing when streaming is unavailable.

  • Life Series DVD+R discs are described as the cheaper Verbatim line that is not AZO dye, so they may not match premium long-term reliability expectations.

  • Burning reliability can be inconsistent with recordable media, including past experiences where many discs were ruined during the burn process.

  • DVD+R blanks may still face long-term reliability limits because organic dye can deteriorate over time.

  • These discs are not dual-layer, so they are a poor fit for users who need more than single-layer capacity.

Back when recordable CD's first came out, I would drive 250 miles to a Fry's store in the Bay Area to buy 10 discs for $100. That was quite a deal back then, but the technology was still new; so about every 7 of 10 discs would be ruined in the burning process. Anyway, I found that the ruined CD's were great for repelling birds from the fruit trees. I would drill a small hole in each disc, tie a fishing swivel through the hole and hang them on branches. DVD's work equally well for this.
My first CD burner in the late 90s only made one or two successful CDs. Got burned pretty bad ,especially at the cost of 1st gen. My younger thought it was so cool that you could put custom wallpapers for the folder backgrounds on removable media in the win95 days

+R are the best to use as they have very good error correction, not sure if these are the AZO dye version but that's the most reliable type to get for long term data storage
These are the cheaper "Life Series" so they aren't AZO dye. If they were this would be a smoking deal. Verbatim introduced the Life Series versions to compete against the cheaper brands back in the day for those that didn't want to pay a premium for the superior AZO dye version. Still a good deal if you need them for some reason.

I remember hunting for deals on Verbatim AZO or Taiyo Yuden manufactured discs back then because they were the best quality.

lol - remember the circuit city? earn money after rebate!
I remember going in there and having them price match the lower price from another store so I could use Circuit City's rebate to do just that...The guy saw the sale price from the other store and said he'd have to go there later to get some... I'm like, you moron, why do you think I came in here instead of two stores down??? And had to explain to him that they were paying me to buy the blanks from them.

Someone must have found a couple of crates of these in the back of a warehouse somewhere.

I remember doing so much research between which one was better: DVD-R or DVD+R
