This Tapo HybridCam 360 2K set stands out as a corded outdoor camera option with strong pan and tilt coverage, quick app connection, and solid performance in rain, humidity, and Texas heat. The cameras are reported to work well indoors too, and the H500 hub or an SD card can avoid monthly cloud costs. The main tradeoffs are that this model has no internal battery or solar power, so it needs USB C power, and cloud storage adds a yearly or monthly fee. The app also shows some ads, and the starlight sensor spec does not appear to have a usable mode.

Common Questions (5)

  • This model is corded and powered by a USB-C to USB-A cable, so it does not have an internal battery. It can run in daylight, but at night or when the sun is not out it will be dead unless you use a separate power source; Tapo's solar models are different and cost more.

  • No subscription is needed if you use a microSD card or a local hub like the Tapo H500. Cloud storage is optional and costs $34.99 per year or $3.49 per month after a 30-day free trial.

  • Yes, it has been used outdoors through rain, humidity, and Texas heat with good Wi‑Fi range and continued operation. One camera even survived sitting in a puddle after its USB power supply failed, while the camera itself kept running.

  • Yes, it can record locally with an SD card, and the H500 hub adds AI tracking for vehicles, people, and animals without cloud storage. The hub can also use a 2.5-inch HDD or SSD and output directly to a monitor or TV.

  • The $50 two-pack is described as a very standard price for this camera. The only lower pricing mentioned is occasional Tapo website specials, usually just $5-10 less.

It is powered via USB-c to USB-A cable. TP link has solar powered models that have a built in battery but it is over $100
What is the voltage and current support for this through USB-C?

These are great compared to my Wyze cameras. Software is quick to connect and there's no need for a subscription if you install an SD card.

my portable battery says 1 watt. Not sure if that is accurate or not, but that was the only way I had available to me.

I have these. They seem fine indoors. Haven;t mounted them outdoors yet. But this is a very standard price.
I have several of these outside. One sat in a puddle of water. The USB power supply went out but the camera kept on going. These things can handle extreme rain and heat here in Texas. Tp-link Tapo cameras are awesome. I've replaced all my ring, Wyze, ip cams like Reolink and Hikvision. The wired cameras can be run by BlueIris and TP-link makes a homebase that can control all the cameras and identifies familiar faces. I've used their doorbell cam as an AllSky astronomy use where I can see when the sky is clear to put out the telescopes.

Does it run on solar too? Don't wanna run wire
Tapo has several solar and battery cams. This one is not one of them. The solar cams work very well for me. I have the cameras constantly recording and the battery has never gone below 80%. I have one on top of my chimney that can pan and tilt all around my property. I have several along my fences. Just hang them up and go. Easy peezy.

I've also started to replace multiple Ring doorbell cameras from my rental properties with TP-Link. I don't like all the ads in the Tapo app, but whatever. I'll just have to deal with it

Hmmm, I only see a couple of ads promoting new TPLink products on the Home Screen. Zero ads if I'm viewing the cameras. Even if I'm viewing multiple cameras at the same time. I love their app. I use a computer with BlueIris as a backup. It records direct from the camera in case someone steals a camera with an SDcard in it. I also have the Homebase with an SSD card but it lags and speeds up too much for me. I only use it for the familiar faces feature.

Requires 5volts, 1 to 2 amps for 5 to 10 watts. Operational power consumption around 2 watts.

Whats the subscription cost?
Pick up the h500 hub and a 2.5 in HDD or SSD and you never have to worry about monthly costs. It also has AI built into the hub so it will do vehicle, person, animal, etc tracking without having to connect to the cloud or store anything out there. I have one and it works surprisingly well.

They have a solar version that works quite well.. it's a little pricier because it has the built-in battery and charging hardware in addition to the solar panel. These need USBC power.

I have the tapo h500 With a 1 TB 2.5 in SSD installed and it works fantastic. I've had it lock up once but the moment I rebooted it, I had no issues so I have it on a schedule to reboot daily and no issues ever since. I thought about using SD cards in addition, but the h500 works quite well and it also supports a bunch of devices like water sensors, temperature/ humidity probes, motion detectors, window/door contacts... . It's totally worth the extra, especially since you can plug it into an HDMI cable and view directly on a monitor/tv.

That's interesting I didn't know they made their own hub. I have synology, wouldn't it better to find a universal option so we can use regardless of camera? I think tapo gib works only with tplink cameras right?
