Both machines good and good for the price. Depending on your wants/desires you could go either way.

Comparing the CPUs of the intel machine and the AMD machine (note: this is last generation AMD, but there weren't much gains...so AMD might be a LITTLE better than these numbers)

Intel machine a little faster in single core (2% in geekbench) while the AMD machine is a bit more faster in multicore (15% in geekbench). But CPU speeds are probably close enough most wouldn't notice a difference.

GPU is quite a bit better in the intel machine. (21% faster). Biggest overall difference here so far, if you have plans on giving the GPU a workout!

Battery life between the CPUs seems like a wash (supposedly the intel machine is a little better when doing light tasks, but the AMD machine is a little better when working hard).

If it was just these items alone, I'd say the intel machine is better...but

The intel machine is in the Aspire platform which isn't as nice feeling/built as the AMD swift machine. If this is something you care about, major points for AMD.

I'm not sure if one machine has a bigger battery than the other. If so, that'd be a major perk.

I think it's a solid deal.

Display is a bit weak - non oled and only 350 nits

other wise good specs.

Looks good. How is this compared to costco: https://www.costco.com/.product.4000372396.html

Given the current pricing climate, this is a great deal on a decent laptop with these specs. Display could be better but any laptop with 32GB under $1000 is a good deal, especially with other brands middle-road laptops coming in >$2K. Also this is a new model with the latest generation AMD chip.

Gemini says:

"The AMD Ryzen AI 9 465 (a 10-core/20-thread processor with 20 threads) heavily outperforms the Intel Core Ultra 9 288V (an 8-core/8-thread processor) in heavily multithreaded tasks. However, the Intel Ultra 9 288V features significantly faster single-core speeds, a smaller 3nm node, and its integrated graphics excel in power efficiency and certain creative benchmarks. "

That tilts it a little in the direction of the Intel variant as most things people do happen in single core.

Thanks. Costco model is 2025 model where as BestBuy is 2026. Not sure if that gives an edge. But I heard Acer Swift has all metal chasis and very good durability. debating between these two. Costco also has addl year warranty with 4% cash back.

The irony is that we're starting to tilt back towards Intel, and for the graphics of all things.

Any reason I wouldn't be able to swap the SSD with a larger one?

Why is it bad? Care to elaborate? It has a 350nits 100srgb I believe. 120hz refresh rate.

Just bought it this evening. Took all the bloat off, not much. Still messing around with it and very impressed so far. Comes with a padded laptop case as well.

Been on the hunt for a great gaming laptop (also personal use). Dont mind the weal screen specs since mostly connected to dock station and dual monitor.
