I only have the G1 and I keep the base relatively nearby and haven't had any signal issues. But if I'm somewhere else I just use the app. So obviously I can't compare but just want to plug this because I think it works great

I originally owned a P1 (Wi-Fi/Bluetooth) and then upgraded to G1 (Wi-Fi/Sub-1G/Bluetooth). Full disclosure, I don't use the app so I depend entirely on connectivity with the base.
The P1 worked very well when I had my smoker and BBQ on my back patio. However a remodel/addition required me to relocate them to another location on the opposite side of our house from the kitchen. The P1 worked okay most of the time but occassionally lost communication with the probe.
That prompted the upgrade to G1 and I've never looked back. Communication is always locked in...even when I take the base station with me to the kitchen.
