The Dyson TP4A Pure Cool Tower Purifier Fan is a design-forward purifier and tower fan that looks good in a living room and runs quietly at lower speeds. The air cleaning side gets praise for reducing dust and filtering air, and generic replacement filters are available for under $20. The main drawbacks are that this TP4A lacks WiFi and app control, and the fan side can feel weak, loud at higher speeds, or even whistle. Refurbished condition and reliability also vary, with reports ranging from excellent to scratched, dusty, or dead on arrival.

  • Design-focused buyers furnishing a living room, because the unit is well-built, quiet, and visually attractive in a prominent space.

  • Shoppers who want a purifier that also avoids blowing dust and pollen directly at them, because the airflow is meant to diffuse particles instead of blasting them in the face.

  • People who want basic air cleaning plus fan use in one appliance, because it does a decent job filtering air while still providing a light breeze.

  • Buyers comfortable with non-smart appliances, because the no-WiFi version skips app control and network integration without affecting the core fan function.

  • Shoppers who need a pristine refurb, because refurbished units can arrive with scratches, dust, hairs, or even display and power defects.

  • Shoppers who need strong cooling from a tower fan, because it needs high settings to move noticeable air and still feels weak compared with a standard fan.

  • People sensitive to motor noise or whistling, because the unit can develop a low-frequency whine or a high-pitched whistle during use.

  • Buyers who want app control or voice-assistant integration, because this version has no Wi-Fi chip and cannot connect to the Dyson app, Alexa, or Google.

Air purifiers are one item that exploits people's fear and yet provides no proof that it has done the job. Even if they did users have no easy way to verify if they did the job. I find it difficult to trust utility of such products. Also even if they work, how a little air purifier will clean my 3000+ sq ft house. May b a lil in the vicinity of it but once u r out of that zone u r inhaling "unpure" air anyways. May be a lil utility they have in absorbing odor if u r cooking something in the kitchen before the guests arrive. But is 150+ bucks worth it for that? I m not sure!
Well obviously you would need several the ones I have come with ppm meters that show how much particles in the air. But honestly you know it's working when you change the filter and see it filled with dirt

I'm not trying to get hate but why are we paying so much for a fan??
It's mainly an air purifier, and does a decent to good job of that. Room still gets dusty, but not as quickly. This thing actually sucks as a fan (no pun intended.) To get it moving any kind of appreciable air, you have to turn it up to like 5 or 6 (out of 10) at which point it gets distractingly loud.

Also, the ambient air temperature needs to be decent to begin with. My air conditioning went out over the summer a few years ago, and my only real respite was this tower fan. Turning it up to 10 and sitting right in front of it barely helped at all.
And not to completely dog on this thing, but mine sometimes starts a really high-pitched whistle if I leave it on for more than 15 minutes. The age of the filter has no bearing on this. It's uncommon, but it happens often enough to mention.
Any traditional fan will vastly outperform this thing. If I could get my money back and try again, I'd spend most of that money on a dedicated air purifier and the remaining $25 or so on a basic fan.

Mine arrived today, and it's already displaying what I've just learned to be the "triangle of death." Currently trying to activate diagnostic menu, and hearing that it'll most likely be a pcb issue.
