The Dyson TP4A Pure Cool Tower Purifier Fan is a design-forward purifier and tower fan that looks good in a living room and runs quietly at lower speeds. The air cleaning side gets praise for reducing dust and filtering air, and generic replacement filters are available for under $20. The main drawbacks are that this TP4A lacks WiFi and app control, and the fan side can feel weak, loud at higher speeds, or even whistle. Refurbished condition and reliability also vary, with reports ranging from excellent to scratched, dusty, or dead on arrival.
Common Questions (5)
The eBay listing includes a 2-year Allstate warranty and free 30-day returns, while Dyson's own refurbished site is described as offering only a 6-month warranty with no returns. That extra coverage is a major reason some shoppers prefer the eBay deal.
Condition can vary a lot: some refurbished units arrive in excellent, like-new shape, while others have shown scratches, dust, hairs, or even defects like a dead display or the "triangle of death." If cosmetic condition matters, the refurb lottery is a real consideration.
No. The TP4A is the cheaper TP04 variant without a Wi‑Fi chip, so it cannot be controlled from the Dyson app or integrated with Alexa or Google. If smart control matters, the Wi‑Fi version is the better fit; if you want fewer connected devices, the lack of Wi‑Fi may be a plus.
Generic replacement filters are available for under $20, which can keep ongoing costs low. That makes the purifier easier to maintain than buying Dyson-branded filters, and some buyers specifically cited that price as the reason to pull the trigger.
It moves air more like a light breeze than a strong traditional fan, and noticeable airflow may require higher settings around 5-6 out of 10. At those levels it can get loud, so it works better as a purifier-first device than as a replacement for a powerful standalone fan.

Also, the ambient air temperature needs to be decent to begin with. My air conditioning went out over the summer a few years ago, and my only real respite was this tower fan. Turning it up to 10 and sitting right in front of it barely helped at all.
And not to completely dog on this thing, but mine sometimes starts a really high-pitched whistle if I leave it on for more than 15 minutes. The age of the filter has no bearing on this. It's uncommon, but it happens often enough to mention.
Any traditional fan will vastly outperform this thing. If I could get my money back and try again, I'd spend most of that money on a dedicated air purifier and the remaining $25 or so on a basic fan.
Now the unit won't even turn on. Yea this is going back.
