The Dyson TP4A Pure Cool Tower Purifier Fan is a design-forward purifier and tower fan that looks good in a living room and runs quietly at lower speeds. The air cleaning side gets praise for reducing dust and filtering air, and generic replacement filters are available for under $20. The main drawbacks are that this TP4A lacks WiFi and app control, and the fan side can feel weak, loud at higher speeds, or even whistle. Refurbished condition and reliability also vary, with reports ranging from excellent to scratched, dusty, or dead on arrival.
eBay listings can include a 2-year Allstate warranty and free 30-day returns, which may be more flexible than Dyson's 6-month warranty and no returns.
The TP4A model can avoid WiFi connectivity, which may help prevent adding another device to a home network.
Generic replacement filters can cost under $20, which may reduce ongoing maintenance expenses.
Warranty support can be responsive, including live phone support during warranty claims.
Some units can fail soon after arrival or use, including a non-working display or the "triangle of death" indicating a likely PCB issue.
Refurbished units can arrive with scratches, dust, and hairs, which suggests inconsistent cosmetic or cleanliness condition.
The TP4A variant lacks a WiFi chip, so it cannot be controlled through the Dyson app or connected to Alexa or Google.
Some refurbished units can develop noise issues, including low-frequency whining after higher speeds.

But more to the point, they're well-built -perhaps over-built- and are targeting customers who place a premium on design.
If you're the kind of person who asks "Why pay this much when I can just build my own DIY air purifier with a box fan and a hepa filter for a couple of bucks?", or are otherwise more value/function oriented, then you're not the target customer.
I bought one of these refurbs a few years ago at a similar price, and really do like how it looks in the living room. I was willing to pay ~$100 more than the best-selling smart air purifier on Amazon (~$75) for something that looks good front and center with the rest of my furniture and decor where it is most effective, rather than something I would want to hide away out of view.

The fan itself is cool, its not as strong as normal fan. Its more like a light breeze hitting you and it is somewhat quieter than a standard fan.
It's like saying car air filters are a myth because there's so much dust around when driving.
