I'm not trying to get hate but why are we paying so much for a fan??
Not just a fan, an air purifier.
But more to the point, they're well-built -perhaps over-built- and are targeting customers who place a premium on design.
If you're the kind of person who asks "Why pay this much when I can just build my own DIY air purifier with a box fan and a hepa filter for a couple of bucks?", or are otherwise more value/function oriented, then you're not the target customer.
I bought one of these refurbs a few years ago at a similar price, and really do like how it looks in the living room. I was willing to pay ~$100 more than the best-selling smart air purifier on Amazon (~$75) for something that looks good front and center with the rest of my furniture and decor where it is most effective, rather than something I would want to hide away out of view.

Don't know Dyson site, but it is pretty easy to get refund at ebay.
You also get an Allstate warranty with Ebay. One of my friends bought a Dyson fan refurbed on ebay that ended up making noises. Allstate just gave him a check for the original purchase price after he'd had it for over a year and a half.

I've bought this fan last year as a refurb and immediately I start to hear this low frequency whining noise after speed 4/5. Went into a rabbit hole and read that this is a common thing due to some low quality bearing that dyson uses so if youre sensitive to sounds it might bother you.
The fan itself is cool, its not as strong as normal fan. Its more like a light breeze hitting you and it is somewhat quieter than a standard fan.

Interesting. I bought refurbished from dyson. Excellent condition. With no visible signs of use
I guess I got unlucky. I messaged their customer service 3 days ago and have not heard back. I have attached photos but they are not showing up.

Air purifier and filter is a myth unless you live in a glass cage. You know how much fiber and "dust" flies when you pull and use a facial tissue? How much pollen enters through doors whenever you open & close. If you have carpets, it stirs up so much "dust" while vacuuming. It's just a nice and fancy fan.
Uhh... didn't you just list reasons why you would want an air purifier??
It's like saying car air filters are a myth because there's so much dust around when driving.

You can find the same price on the Dyson site: https://www.dyson.com/outlet/refu...ite-silver
true, but dyson only offers 6month warranty and no returns, while ebay offers 2yr warranty and free 30day returns.

I had the same question and I was surprised to find generic replacements below $20, so that alone convinced me to pull the trigger. Here's one on Amazon with good reviews: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...5RHC/?th=1

You are correct, we should also not put filters in our HVAC, not filter our water, not wash our hands, or wash our clothes... SMH

True and the eBay one has the 2- yr Allstate warranty included vs. Dyson 6-month warranty. Dyson official is harder to deal with vs Allstate in my experience.
