One year later with the heat pump version, and I'd say it has already paid for itself in electricity and gas savings for cooling only the bedroom at night and then covering the fall and now the spring shoulder season: heating until a few days ago, and cooling as of two days ago.

One quirk is that the auto setting is messed up, and it seems to only pick up weather at a different location. I learned not to keep it on auto but either on cool or on heat.

An upgrade I would recommend is a $40-ish drain water pump, it sits on the floor and when full dumps the water through a hose that empties on the roof through a tiny hole in a window seal. No more need to empty a can or bucket when full.

Amazon has this same unit refurbed for more. There are a LOT of 1-star reviews, seems QC isn't very good with these. Maybe buy a long warranty with the money you save?

I posted this in the the thread a month ago. Mine came missing the sliding window attachment. I emailed support on a Thursday night and had my missing parts by Monday afternoon. Other than that, unit looked brand new, minus one scratch. Ran it a couple times over the last week and cooled my bedroom down with easy. If you cannot get a window unit, this is a great deal. Also, I started a return on the off chance I couldn't get the attachments. You return to the store, not UPS or anything.

Had a Danby model that stopped cooling after about 3 years use when I broke it out this week. Grabbed this, got it set up yesterday. Was missing the vertical adapter but the previous one worked.

Kind of has a chemical smell, but otherwise looks new.

Do not buy. I bought two, both were cracked and scuffed and looked like crap. Didn't come with remote in picture. Support won't replace units.

Yeah, this deall seems to be a total lottery. Bought from them last year for $212. Received what appeared to be a brand new unit. Everything was new in package and sealed. The unit itself looked like it had never been touched. I've tested it several times and it appears to work great. But I haven't ran it hard enough to say I fully trust it. Was purchased for power outages. I'm not getting caught in another 3 day outage in july, in 100 degree weather...

These A/C machines are awesome. We have 4 running at night during the summer (we don't have central a/c). One great thing about inverter a/c is that is turns low, not off. and quiet once it hits the set temp, and then increases power again if it gets too hot again. Just running it to sleep at night is probably about 5 kilowatts per night for each machine. I have solar panels, so i don't sweat the electricity usage at all.
Do not ever get a single hose portable a/c, they are so inefficient. This dual hose system is the way to go!

Just buy from Costco or a used one from local that you could test first. Don't bother with so called refurbished return units.

Thanks for mentioning this. Highly recommend 2 hose (including this style) as well as they are more effective. For single hose designs, the same amount of air that you're expelling is necessarily replaced with air from outside the house being sucked into your house through doors, windows, etc because of the air pressure drop inherent in pumping air from inside to outside.

Count me as another lucky one. I ordered Tuesday at 6pm and it arrived Wednesday by 1pm (FW to ATX). It's running and so far so good. Everything is new. It appears to be a QC reject as it has a gash on the front panel by the buttons. It has a newer remote than my other Duo.
