One year later with the heat pump version, and I'd say it has already paid for itself in electricity and gas savings for cooling only the bedroom at night and then covering the fall and now the spring shoulder season: heating until a few days ago, and cooling as of two days ago.
One quirk is that the auto setting is messed up, and it seems to only pick up weather at a different location. I learned not to keep it on auto but either on cool or on heat.
An upgrade I would recommend is a $40-ish drain water pump, it sits on the floor and when full dumps the water through a hose that empties on the roof through a tiny hole in a window seal. No more need to empty a can or bucket when full.

This restored Midea Duo portable air conditioner stands out for efficient bedroom cooling, quiet inverter operation, and a dual hose style that is more effective than single hose units. Several deliveries looked new or nearly new, and some arrived with all accessories and worked well right away. The main drawback is quality control, with reports of missing adapters, remotes, and other parts, plus occasional rattling, error codes, or damaged units. Support and returns have been easy in some cases, but not all. A solid option if you are willing to gamble on condition and completeness.
Support can ship missing adapters or parts quickly after delivery, which can reduce downtime when accessories are incomplete.
The unit can cool a bedroom effectively after setup, and some buyers report it looked new with accessories included.
The double-wall "single hose" setup can function like a dual-hose design, which may improve efficiency versus true single-hose portables.
The inverter design can reduce cycling by ramping down power at the set temperature, which may help maintain quieter overnight operation.
Refurbished units can arrive with missing window adapters or other small parts, which can require returns or follow-up shipments.
Some restored units show error codes or fail to blow cool air, including cases where resetting does not clear the issue.
Auto mode can behave incorrectly, and temperature sensing can be finicky enough that the unit may not run through the night unless configured carefully.
Return logistics can be problematic, including return label errors and denials tied to the 90-day window even when the return process started early.

Kind of has a chemical smell, but otherwise looks new.
Do not ever get a single hose portable a/c, they are so inefficient. This dual hose system is the way to go!
