The Sofirn Q8 Plus is a big, high output rechargeable flashlight that works well for camping, around the house use, and as a work light or lantern with the diffuser or ceiling bounce. It throws a lot of light, can light up a yard or field impressively, and the Anduril 2 interface adds customizable button lights, thermal limits, and storage settings. The main tradeoffs are size and heat, since it is heavy, gets very hot on turbo, and may need a quarter turn to disconnect the batteries for long storage. The 6000K version is favored for maximum brightness and a more dramatic beam.

  • Tinkerers who like customizable flashlight controls, because Anduril 2 lets you change aux LEDs, thermal limits, and other settings.

  • Campers wanting a lantern-style light, because the diffuser or ceiling bounce works well on low for tent or campsite use.

  • People lighting a yard, field, or work area, because it throws a huge amount of light and still has decent output after heating up and throttling back.

  • Household users who want one grab-and-go flashlight, because it gets used more than other lights around the house and is the one reached for when pocket carry is not needed.

  • Long-term storage users who want zero battery fuss, because the auxiliary LEDs can drain the cells unless they are turned off or the batteries are disconnected.

  • People wanting a compact everyday carry light, because it is a beast of a flashlight and is not comfortable to hold barehanded on Turbo.

  • Buyers expecting a warm, color-accurate beam for close-up tasks, because the 6000K version looks brighter but is less practical than 5000K for everyday work.

  • People who need a light that stays cool during sustained high output, because it gets very hot after a few minutes on Turbo.

People who got both 5000k and 6000k, which one do you like more?
I went with 6k... dont regret it. When I go turbo I want max lumens, not color accuracy. This isn't really a practical flashlight where I'd ever crave that accuracy during use, at least for me. When I want to shock and awe friends, the 6k does it. If you're going to use this to do actually productive things in life instead of mainly novelty shock and awe, then I can see 5k being more practical. I got other lights to grab when im working on my car, walking the dog, etc that benefit from 5k. But when I'm wanting to light up a football field, 6k it is more max effectiveness.

I love mine but the 2 red led lights underneath the power button never seem to stop glowing, even when the lights turned completely off, they are on, just really dim. Is this normal?
The Sofirn Q8 Plus uses Anduril 2.0. The button Aux light is programmable to be Off, Low, High, or Blinking. You can also program a different button aux light state for when it is in lockout mode. Customize until your heart's content!

How hot does this thing run on the max setting? Can you actually hold it with your bare hands for more than a minute?
Because the Q8 Plus uses Anduril 2.0 and has advanced temperature regulation, the max temperature is actually customizable. I believe it can be set anywhere from 31C to 75C. The factory default setting is usually set to around 45C, but companies can program their own defaults, so it can be different.

How long can this be on standby mode without having to recharge if not used.
It could probably go a couple years without recharging. It all depends on the settings, and the actual battery cells you have in the light. There is a lot of variation between Li-ion cells. I have left one of my Q8 lights on a shelf, with occasional use, and it's still charged 9 months later. You can program the Aux lights to be Off, Low, High, or Blinking.

If you are planning to store the light and not use it for and extended period, you should discharge the batteries to 3.7 - 3.8 volts before putting it away. The light has a built in voltage check function. Just don't store it at 100% charge for extended periods.

I have both, and I prefer the 6000K. It just "looks" brighter.

Can you tell the difference when putting it on turbo?

Btw the deal is over.

That'll work, but it's kinda jenky to have to do that,.. even with a cheapo flashlight, let alone one in this price bracket.

That's great. It's annoying when I pull a flashlight for use after sitting in s drawer for awhile and the battery is drained.

Hmmm, no... it's just an option. You can also turn them off if they bother you. With Anduril, you have all the options. Like Triggerhappy says...

Me, I don't mind the quarter turn to disconnect the batteries completely to be sure they are not drained when I want to play... bulb

Really only an issue if you don't use/recharge the light for prolonged periods.

I understand its just an option, but it's still the jenky option. Disconnecting the batteries to a flashlight to store it long term, even on a cheapo flashlight isn't something you should have to do. I prefer the other non-jenky option fixing it in the settings.
