The Lenovo Idea Tab is a budget 11 inch Android tablet that stands out for its 2.5K screen, included pen, and solid media use. It handles streaming, web browsing, reading, YouTube, and light gaming well, with Balatro, Roblox, Minecraft, GTA San Andreas, and even some retro emulation getting positive real world use. The headphone jack, USB C fast charging, and 8GB RAM make it feel more capable than cheap entry tablets. The main drawback is the MediaTek 6300, which keeps it from feeling fast for heavier multitasking or demanding apps, and the 480 gram weight may matter if you want something very light. A practical pick for everyday entertainment and casual use.

  • The MediaTek MT6300 performance can feel too slow for web browsing and multitasking.

  • The bootloader may not be unlockable, which can limit advanced customization options.

  • The tablet can be heavy enough to make couch handheld use less comfortable.

  • Lenovo tablet software support can be limited, with at least one update reportedly breaking WPA2 Wi-Fi and never getting patched.

Ipads are a whole different league. Price is much higher lol. Windows laptops at 200-500 price point though..... likely better with updates vs no name tablets
I am pretty sure google is not happy about how Android and different vendors act with updates .

I also figure this will be my last Android tablet until Google's Aluminum OS comes out in 2028. This is suppose to help with updates.

The non-Pro iPads are within the $200-500 range you mentioned. The basic iPad retails for $349 and you can usually get one for $249-299 discounted. The iPad Air can be found on sale for $499 practically every month.

Realistically, $200-400 laptops tend to be quite crappy. If you want something that actually performs decently, you'd need to go up to the $450-600 range.

With that said, tablet vs laptop really depends on what you want to do. My parents both have basic iPads (YouTube, Netflix, Facebook). Neither of them have ever owned laptops nor have any interest getting one. My dad's iPad is the 2017 iPad 5th gen and it still serves him well.

Admittedly, official software updates tend to be lacking on Android.

This, the Pro, or a used Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE?

This... to slow IMHO. It will work but it will be sluggish. I put up a post about how to use a slow tablet.

The Pro... this is AMAZING, it is incredible deal regarding specs.

Galaxy Tab S9 FE... this is not a great tablet when you compare it to the Lenovo Idea Tab PRO. The Galaxy uses UFS 2.2 when the Lenovo uses UFS 3.1... HUGE difference in hard drive transfer speeds. Also the Exynos 1380 is slower then the MT8300 which is found on the Pro. And the bloatware is insane and that also lowers your speed.

The Lenovo outclasses the Samsung in raw power, display quality, and value. We are talking about the Pro model.

But Lenovo Idea Tab PRO is a powerhouse and it is for sale for $237.50 (as cheap as $223.25 using cashback website R A K...) and I think it comes with keyboard and pen. It has UFS 3.1 (huge increase in UFS 2.2), MT8300 CPU - about as powerful as a SD 8 Gen 2, 8GB of RAM and 128GB hard drive... all for $237.50. To me it is a no brainer. And use R A K U... for an additional 6% off (was 2%). With the 6% off... it becomes $223.25!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT IS CRAZY GOOD PRICE... THE BEST TABLET DEAL I HAVE SO FAR SEEN.

I will add that I got my mom a ipad years ago... she joined a book club and purchased her books from the istore... I found out years later she spent on average $12 more on every single book she purchased because apple charged more. I am not happy with apple for this. She purchased a book every month (book club)... So it went on for about five years... 12 * 12 * 5 = $720. And yes, she could have purchased it from many different locations but my mom is old and her mind does not work like it use to and I can't expect my mom to search the web for the best price on a book she wants to read on her ipad when there is the istore. Another reason why I hate apple.

Bought this and it worked great for watching videos, gaming (GTA: San Andreas) & browsing the web. I love that it has a headphone jack! The 6300 is similar to the g99. At this price it's worth it but if you need a more then this then your looking to spend 200 plus. I was lucky to pick this guy up for 132.99 in November.

I purchased the idea tab deal for $148 last week and just received it today. I was not aware of the pro deal at the time.
Here's my question for you- I purchased the idea tab to solely use as a streaming device- watching Netflix and YouTube TV etc and light internet browsing. I will not do any gaming or computing with the tab. Is it worth returning the tab for the pro for my use case? Will I be paying extra for just another inch in display size? If that's the case, it's probably not worth it to me. Or will I notice a much improved streaming or browsing experience with the pro? Interested in your thoughts- appreciate it!

Streaming, no difference. Web browsing should see an improvement. Modern webpages have gotten pretty heavy on JavaScript.

Personally though, I think the 12.7" Idea Tab Pro is too big for couch surfing.

Just putting this out there. I had a Lenovo P11 Pro Gen 2 tablet. It was great. Excellent picture, sound and price. I paid $290 for it. I had it for 1.5yrs and one day it went into boot loop and never came back. Tried all of the tricks to get it out of boot loop. Its now a brick. I will never buy a lenovo product again. My Samsung S2 from 10yrs ago still works but this Lenovo from 3yrs ago is junk. I bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10 FE for $400 on sale. Its almost as good as the Galaxy TAB S10 but without the amoled screen and different processor. However, it has alot of features. You're better off with something other than the Lenovo. Plus Lenovo doesn't upgrade operating software like every other maker. They may update to the second to last software but never the latest. Just something to think about.

I bought one. Yes, it comes with the pen. It's nice. Pretty snappy, and a great screen. Mainly aluminum body and USB-C fast charging (20w). I'm very happy with it, especially for ~$150. I'm mainly using it for reading, web surfing, Jellyfin viewing, videos, etc.

Longtime Android user here. I've been using cheap tablets since 2010 from odd Chinese brands to iPads. I've been modding and flashing roms since the early days of froyo.
If you're just browsing, media playback or light gaming. This is a good tablet for just that. Real productivity comes from how you're gonna use this and with what along with for what. Meaning don't expect to do graphic design or web design or whatever a $800 tablet can do.
I was working remote using an amazons fire table (their more expensive ones) as a costumer rep for a large bank for a whole year. Every software needed was web based which made easier to work with. The few times I needed a windows pc I just remote controlled one from their servers.
With that being said, I purchased this tablet after much research. If I was able to use a fire max 11 tablet with just 4gb to do a paid job, I don't need anything fancy and this will do just fine.
There's a firstoolbox that helps make fire tablets more usable.

So I am also a tablet person and my philosophy is to stay away from Samsung tablets...
1. Samsung has been fighting with google for the last decade... this is probably the reason for the new OS that will be coming out..."Aluminium OS". The fight is always about the users security and control of the OS.
2. Many updates don't ever get to the Samsung product because Samsung does not push them out
3. Hundreds/thousands of additional vulnerabilities due to One Ui, something you need to consider.
4. Many (most) updates get delayed until they push them out, it could be delayed like a year and during that time your tablet is vunerable (happened in 2025 with google play system update... was delayed FOR A YEAR)
5. APPLCOUD this is the new app that spies and you and has access to install software based on your web habits. And you can not disable this app. And some rando company paid Samsung MILLIONS to install this.. it is not even controlled by Samsung!!!
6. The bloatware, Samsung is KING and again, this comes with one UI bloatware, Bixly bloatware, hundreds of apps - all bloatware. This bloatware slows you down.

Also, I don't know of any tablet that you can change out the battery... but they all can be done, I recommend using a professional service, one that has all the tools. But really, by the time your battery is no good, I bet you that it was time to buy a new tablet years earlier.

Also, I would not buy a tablet with 6GB of RAM. You are asking for issues in the near future.

About the Chinese tariffs, it use to be no tariffs if the item cost below $800 and was shipped to you directly from China and China subsidized the delivery cost. This is almost over, you can still find decent CHEAP tablets but they are not as cheap as they use to be. The only cheap Chinese tablet that I can recommend is the Poco M1 tablet but AT THESE PRICES (THIS LENOVO DEAL)... it is a no brainier, you are getting a faster tablet for less money.

And I would NOT buy this tablet and I would get the more expensive one $235ish (from Lenovo)... the better screen, the better CPU, IMHO is worth it. I am now looking for a foam case for this tablet.
About the change of battery of Samsung tablets, I am not sure about the latest ones. I have not checked them in ebay. For the older models, I was able to replace most of them. I still have Samsung original Tab S from 2015 with new replacement battery.
I have Samsung Tab S6 replacement battery handy, awaiting to apply.

And you think the average person will have the knowledge and tools needed to do this repair? Not to mention installing linage?

In addition don't you think the average person would want to spend $224 on a tablet that has a MT8300 cpu? Not to mention UFS 3.1 and 8GB of RAM and 144Hz screen. It is the CPU that makes this deal so sweat, about equal to a Snap Dragon 8 Gen 2... while it is not the best, it is still up there

In for the Idea Tab Pro for $237 just now, still available. I am upgrading from a 2018 Fire HD8 running Lineage 17.1, I think this should be a nice upgrade! Thanks to the OP, joshuaNH, and everyone in this thread for all of the great info!
