These look so much like the Dewalt 12v I wonder if Dewalt makes this for Makita? I also wonder if batteries are interchangeable?

No, and no. The Makita 12v platform has been around quite some time, I've had mine for almost 10 years now. It is pretty stagnant though, not many new 12v Makita tools.

edit: Realized this is square impact, not normal impact, point is still the same though.

Don't invest in Makita 12v it's a dead system. Only 12v system worth invest is Milwaukee with their growing tools.
Skil 12v if you score couple cheap clearance, great for home use. Don't need more than Skil for home use.

Skil is dumping their 12v lineup IMO which is too bad as I have at least a dozen of their 12v tools. Dewalt the same regarding abandoning 12v again IMO and clearance type pricing at Lowe's. Milwaukee owns the 12v field and with all the 18v subcompacts coming out they are not much larger than 12v tools and more power.
