Is the included DAW any good or should I use something else?

If you're asking if Ableton is any good, then there's likely no way for anyone to recommend something as you would have to know enough to know what you're looking for in order to answer that question. Do you know of any DAWs? The big name mainstream industry standards?

That said, Live Lite is fine for goofing around (aka 99% of people using production software.) It's perfectly serviceable for beginners and hobbyists, especially if you're primarily interested in "live performance" mixing/playing, rather than from-scratch production.

If you're just starting out and are more interested in the writing/composing/production aspects, I've always found FL studio to be a very intuitive and easy to use entry point. While there's something to be said for starting with professional standards like Cubase or Protools, so that you don't have to relearn things later, they can also be so frustratingly obtuse to learn that you may be put off entirely. So I tend to recommend starting with something that lets you feel like you're making progress right away and deal with the studio workstation learning curves when that comes up, if ever.

Tl;dr: yeah it's fine.
