Full disclosure - no experience with this specific reel but I do enjoy all of my Penn gear and this appears to be well built. I am RH and use LH retrieve on my spinning gear. I historically used RH retrieve on my baitcasters (like most in N.A.) but tried a LH retrieve when I got into BFS stream fishing. BFS originated in Japan (**I think?**) hence the NA comment. I now prefer LH retrieve on baitcasters as I can place my lure exactly where I want it and start my retrieve immediately instead of the slight delay created by stopping the reel with my right thumb and then switching hands to retrieve with my right hand. I was a doubter before I tried it and now I will be switching over all of my gear (its going to take a while... too much gear!). I can absolutely envision the same ability being useful while fishing inshore around surface structure.

I accidentally bought a left handed reel when I was a kid and didn't know any better so now I only reel lefty with bait casters. Feels better!

Only way to do it. Why do people switch hands, very inefficient.
