KEF LSX II LT is a compact active bookshelf speaker set that stands out for clear, detailed sound and a strong nearfield soundstage, especially on a desk or in a small room. The app adds useful tuning, including treble, crossover, desk or wall settings, and subwoofer integration, and the price at $399.97 is a sharp drop from prior Costco pricing. It works best with a subwoofer for fuller bass and is not built for large spaces. Setup can be finicky for TV, Bluetooth, Apple TV, or audio lag, so it suits focused listening more than plug and play simplicity.

  • The KEF LSX II LT can deliver strong clarity, soundstage, and detail for near-field desktop listening.

  • The KEF Connect app can enable desk or wall tuning and crossover adjustments beyond 80 Hz.

  • The Uni-Q driver design can create a time-aligned single point source soundstage up close.

  • A KEF KC62 sub can integrate seamlessly through the KEF Connect app for fuller sound.

  • The speakers can require app tweaking and may sound best when paired with a sub set around 70-80 Hz.

  • Bluetooth connectivity can be difficult to set up and may not stay connected for some TV room setups.

  • Audio lag and connectivity issues can occur over wireless and USB-C connections.

  • Ground-loop noise can happen, and switching outlets or using an extension may be required to resolve it.

KEF's use uni-q drivers, so the tweeter is in the middle of the woofer, they are exactly aligned so that all of the frequency is time aligned and get to your ears at the same time. Other speakers have the tweeter separate from the woofer, not the worse thing, but it doesn't allow for the sound to come from one point source. Especially if you are using these for your desktop and using them up close, you will hear a big difference with the uni-q drivers. The sound will come from a single source and will give you a better soundstage.

These were a PITA to setup with the software for our little room TV setup. Couldn't get the Bluetooth connection to connect and remain connected properly. Also didn't play well with our AppleTV setup as well. Returned the next day.

Recommend using the HDMI ARC connection if you are using it with your TV, the HDMI ARC connection is literally made for TV setups.

If you are having issues with Apple TV and the sound cutting out, you should also enable Continuous Audio Connection

Great price. KEF makes amazing speakers, I have a set for my living room, the LS50 wireless for home desktop and LSX II's for office. You want to pair these with subs if you have the room. The LT's are the exact same sound as the regular LSX II's just without the AptX Bluetooth support, which isn't really necessary if you use these as desktop speakers. Absolutely fantastic in fact I might get another pair at this price

Apples and Oranges. Two different sound signatures. The Sonos will most likely give you better low end and will sound bigger, but the KEF will have a better sound quality. The Sonos has more drivers. KEF is a 2 way concentric. You have give it a listen and compare to select which one you like better.

If you are planning on spending $500, you may also to consider the new Cambridge Audio LS/X.
Well said. I bought these and then returned them for a Sonos system. The speakers were amazing, they just didn't fit my space well, a kitchen.

Great speakers, got them on ebay for $350 open box, 2 weeks ago. Got rid of my kanto yu6. The clarity, soundstage and detail are awesome but you have to tweak it in the app. Also need a sub and set this to 70-80hz. Also had a kanto Tuk which are more expensive and this sounds better for near field. 2.1 pc setup
Oh really? I also have the kanto Tuk but I don't use it near, more like a living room speakers. Thanks for sharing, I've been wondering how this KEF sound in comparison with the tuk.

Sonos speakers are meant for casual listening, they fill the space with sound. These type of HiFi speakers are for purposeful music listening, the kind where you sit down on your sofa and these speakers are perfectly positioned in front of you. Different speakers for different types of listening scenarios.

The JBL 530's are passive speakers. These are active and have a good set of electronics inside them including a DAC. Not really a good comparison.

Up close/nearfield these lsx concentric designs are easier to aim to allow sitting in the sweet spot.
Otherwise the 530s are much fuller sounding speakers with a bigger soundstage and better sense of realism and scale. I found the 530s to be better in my living room and to my tastes vs even the ls50metas.
So in generaI I do not consider the lsx an upgrade over the jbl set.
I've owned and tested many KEF models. They make great speakers, that said the 530 are superb speakers very difficult to meaningfully upgrade from without spending $$$$$.

Ordered these a deal or two ago for $500. I did NOT compare them to any similarly priced/regarded speakers. I am quite happy with them. I wanted a good soundstage, and these deliver well - normal music you can't tell the vocals aren't coming from a dedicated center channel. I did add a sub - KEF KC62, which cost more than the speakers, so was overkill for sure, but is a really great addition and pairs with the LSXII's in the app seamlessly. You may well be able to get similar sound for less or a smaller footprint - I don't know. I'm happy with these and have the best HiFi setup I've had since I started listening to music primarily on my PC. If you're an audiophile who has a dedicated system YM May VASTLY Vary. I think I'll be happy with my current setup for ... probably forever, certainly the foreseeable future...unless something breaks.
