Weren't there anecdotal reports from several travel bloggers and folks on Reddit that Uber charged more for rides to those that carry a gift card balance? Not sure if there was any basis to that, but wouldn't put it past them since they have opaque pricing and regularly have 10-25% discounts on gift cards via Costco, their own website, or various online retailers. I'm sure they're recouping that discount somehow. I've found Uber Eats to be more expensive with fees than both Grubhub and Doordash.

I confirmed this to be true when I was in Orlando last August. My wife's uber app, with her account that had no gift cards loaded was, on average showing a 5-10% cheaper fare than my app on my phone with $100 in gift cards preloaded. We checked this on about 12 rides if I recall, so not exactly a small sample size where you could say an outlier match here or there skewed the results. That being said, I think the $100 I had in my account was from a costco deal so it was still cheaper to use my account since the discount I had gotten the GCs with ended up being like 15-20% anyway.
