Milwaukee recently came out with a gen2 surge, this looks a lot like the old version no model number here so hard to tell . Imo the 1st version was not all that great, it wasn't that quiet or powerful it's also got to be 6-7-8 years old model now but to each their own. I have yet to try the gen2 .

I really like the m12 surge but heard gen 1 m18 was not any more powerful. Do want to try the gen 2 m18

I have both the m12 surge and m18 surge gen1, would like to try the gen2 for sure. I would say the gen1 and m12 are probably pretty close in terms of power, but i really do like the longer battery life of the m18 and really, it's powerful enough for the mechanic jobs i do on my own cars or other projects at the house. I ise an m12 surge at work basically every day and love the compact size. If a hydraulic impact cant do what youre trying to do just bust out a ratchet or a high torque 1/2in impact, i dont feel like i'm missing anything with this setup
The Gen2 M18 Surge is much better, had the gen1, and returned it the first time I used it. The M12 Surge is my favorite 1/4" impact, the first one I reach for every time.
The gen2 m18 Surge is definitely worth getting, now I am able to finally sell my Dewalt 870, which is so much better that the gen 1 m18 Surge. The gen2 m18 Surge is not crazy better than the Dewalt 870 hydraulic, but just as good.
Thinking I should just sell my latest gen m18 fuel 1/4" impact. I have yet to use it since having both the m12, and gen2 m18 Surge, they cover everything i need to do, and so much quieter.
