Rao's marinara is praised for its restaurant-like taste and easy flavoring, with the glass jars avoiding the dented-can problem that comes with some pantry sauces. The 15.5 ounce jars are repeatedly described as small, and the price is often compared unfavorably with larger Costco, Sam's Club, Aldi, and local store options. Delivery damage is the biggest concern, with smashed or cracked jars and leaking boxes reported often enough to make shipping feel risky. It is a convenient sauce if you will use it quickly, but the value depends heavily on size and safe delivery.

  • The sauce tastes comparable to regular restaurant marinara and can be easily re-flavored with add-ins.

  • The sauce is described as pretty good and easy to adjust with spices and fresh aromatics.

  • The 2-pack price can work well for gift baskets when paired with pasta and a pot holder.

  • The deal can be acceptable if you do not use a whole jar quickly and plan to reuse jars.

This was a good product before Campbell's ruined it. Don't buy. There are better brands out there.
Which brands do you recommend?

$4.30 EA for the 15.5oz is not a slick deal, if it was the 24oz then it's a decent deal. Especially now that it's Campbell's.
Definitely not. Last December there was a deal 8 32 oz jars for $33. Even that was not a SD as all jars came cracked and leaking. I was shocked the P.O. delivered it to my home. Amazon refunded my money but did not replace the deal. I prefer Victoria but at that price I would have "forced" myself.

good price and it does taste good - comparable to regular restaurant sauce. I still doctor it up with spices and other stuff,

It's so fun cleaning all your other S&S products when a glass jar explodes. 🤣 Had that happen twice, I was able to get an extra $20 of refunds out of them the one real bad one I had. Definitely not worth the gamble, imo.

What's your new favorite at around the same price point?
Not who you are asking, but Midds was always my favorite. Unfortunately they have slowly disappeared from supermarket shelves around me and are replaced by other "fancy" overpriced options.

15.5oz is very small. Costco sells 32oz jars and occasionally has them on sale at 2/$9
Good catch. Usually the supermarket ones are 24 or 32 oz. This isn't actually that great of a deal.

They were bought by Campbells in 2024, how exactly have they been ruined? Or are you thinking of Savos buying them in 2017? That's when they started showing up in Costco I think.

Correct. This is not a good price at all. Even local stores go on sale for $5.99 for 24 oz.

"Victoria" sauce, sold at Costco. Don't get the Costco store brand, it's not good.

I never worried about it until I got 1 or 2 busted jars that ruined all the items in the box. I don't have Amazon Prime so they were probably rotting for a couple of days when it arrived. They weren't even individually wrapped in case of a spill or leak. Amazon refunded everything but it was a pain to clean. I tried to salvage some of the other items and ended up cutting and stabbing my hand like a dummy.
I've had that issue as well, so I've basically stopped buying glass jars from Amazon. It's unfortunate, because their prices are often better than the supermarket.

I have not tried it but, Carbone [carbonefinefood.com]. It's the new trendy sauce.
Nah the rao's marinara is still superior to the carbone. Even after the Campbell buyout.
