Because this is not a WaterSense model. Has to be 1.28 GPF to meet CA requirements.
I have two of these in 1.28 GPF option and they work well.

I would suggest being present on day of delivery and meeting them at the truck before they unload. Purchased the regular height or $274 last week and the box looked damaged and there was definitely rattled pieces in the box. I refused the delivery and told the drivers you can carry it to my door, but tomorrow you'd carry it back. I told him it was a toilet and he said, oh yeah, it's definitely broken.

Costco deal is better if you're not immediately upgrading to a bidet seat. Costco model comes with a seat, stainless supply line, wax ring and mounting bolts.

Community Reviews

The TOTO Drake is a well regarded elongated toilet that stands out for strong flushing and a clog resistant design, with the CEFIONTECT coating meant to help keep the bowl cleaner. It also fits tighter bathrooms where extra door clearance matters, though the elongated shape can feel awkward in smaller layouts. The main cautions are shipping damage and a barebones package, since the seat, wax kit, supply hose, and mounting hardware are not included. Cleaning also needs care because abrasive pads, pumice, and bleach cleaners may damage the finish.

Common Questions (5)

  • Shipping damage is a real risk, and damaged boxes or broken bowls were reported on delivery. Buying locally or using ship-to-store pickup is the safer option if you want to avoid returns.

  • Use a plastic or silicone bristle brush and gel toilet cleaners without bleach. Pumice stones, scouring pads, Comet, and other abrasive tools can scratch the coating.

  • No. This deal is missing the seat, wax kit, and supply hose, so those need to be bought separately if you need a complete install. The Costco version mentioned in the thread includes those extras and is about $40 more.

    Ddizzlealienbeagle

  • Not if you need a WaterSense-compliant toilet for California requirements. The thread says the California-compliant option needs to be 1.28 GPF instead.

    extra

  • It was reported to eliminate clogging after replacing a builder-grade toilet, with one owner saying it has never clogged. That makes it a strong upgrade if clogging is the main problem.

I actually don't think they recommend a brush because it can scratch the coating off. So I'm left wondering what to use to clean these bowls without any abrasives (can't use comet and can't use a scruff pad, so I'm left with a sponge which doesn't clean off the hard water marks).
Plastic or silicone bristle brush is ok as per their website. I think they just don't want you using pumice stones or scouring pads. I only just got mine installed this morning so will start with dawn/silicone brush for now and see how it goes. They don't seem that worried about using regular toilet gel cleaners either. https://www.totousa.com/filemanag...ctions.pdf

California wants to save water, but for what reason? They can't keep the reservoirs full even during fire season because of poor management.
Why would you want full reservoirs even during fire season? So you can whine from Georgia that the water is being stored instead of being used for fires?

If this toilet is restricted from sale in California. Well one option would be to order it and have it delivered to a Amazon locker in Reno or Las Vegas and pick it up from there.

It's $100 off $430, so $330 before sales tax.

I have this in my costco shopping cart, thanks!
Go with the Costco one, it's $40 more but you get a wax kit, supply hose, and seat which this deal doesn't have. The seat alone usually goes for $50

Edit: if you're in California, the Costco deal is also a good option (Costco item # 1713360).

Great toilet. But as others said these don't ship well. I ordered from Wayfair and the FedEx drivers do not handle them with care. Suggest finding it local. I got a second one from Lowes when they had a sale (ship to store).
