The WH 1000XM6 is Sony's premium noise canceling over ear headphone, with strong sound, a travel friendly folding design, and a sturdy hard case that makes it easy to carry. The current $303 brand new price with free shipping and no tax lands below typical open box and refurbished pricing, and the warranty adds value versus direct sales. Comfort is the main tradeoff, since the cups can run warm on hot days and some owners improve them with replacement ear pads. It looks like a solid travel focused option if you want the newest Sony tuning and can live with the heat.
Common Questions (4)
Yes. Open-box pricing is typically around $270-$280, and refurbished Sony XM models have historically rarely dropped below about $200 from reputable sellers. At $303 with free shipping and no tax, it lands as a strong brand-new deal, especially with warranty included.
eBay and Secondipity listings can include a 1-year SquareTrade warranty or a 2-year warranty, depending on the seller/listing. Direct purchases from the seller's site reportedly do not include the same 2-year warranty offered on eBay.
The XM6 fold more travel-friendly than the XM5 and come with a hard case with a magnetic flap that is especially useful for travel. The XM4 are preferred by some for daily use because they run cooler on hot days, while the XM6 can feel warmer on the ears.
Yes. Swapping the ear pads can improve comfort and breathability without sacrificing sound quality, and aftermarket options such as Wicked Cushions or other Amazon pads are available for under $25.
