These are nice and good price, but I would opt for a model that has a metal plate at the entrance to keep squirrels from eating their way in.

That's interesting. I have a few blue bird houses, some like this, that have several broods each year. I've never had to worry about squirrels, never seen them pay attention to them. I just catch snakes sometimes trying to climb up.

I have 6 of these that are 8 yrs old. Cleaning them is easy via the side clips. They are occupied every Spring. I have plenty of squirrels and have had no boxes damaged. Good Luck.

Excellent deal. I have not had an issue with squirrels trying to get into mine, but the metal plates are cheap and easy to install, if you are concerned.

Is it too late in the season to expect bluebirds to occupy these if I install this week, or should I wait until early spring next year to install?

It is never too late. Early spring to late summer

Peak comment. Just had to fashion three metal plates for ours yesterday. It's the red squirrels... they scavenge like mad while gray squirrels never bother the boxes.

Got these while back in a previous deal. Definitely a great deal and they are built very well with good materials.

To those who already have used this product: with the way front panel opens, did you have trouble observing the eggs and hatchlings during the season? Thanks for your reply.

I've never had a bird box before. I have several trees right in my backyard with a bunch of feeders nearby and I know a lot of squirrels and birds come and go. Do I try to go for a more secluded area?
