They sell it in the US because like most things it's not regulated by the government. Consumer protection is almost non-existent in the US, corporate power only.

Uh, are you confusing unregulated with regulation you do not agree with? This product is regulated, just not as "medicine" under the FDA. If those should be banned, shouldn't bleach or drain cleaner be first?
