it is not as good as afresh, its cheaper yes, but in the end, it just isn't as good. and id throw it away if I didnt want to waste them.

This or similar. These tabs are just an acid paired with baking soda that foams up to make you think it's working. The ingredients on the SDS [useactive.com]are citric acid, baking soda, fragrance, and a few things that are basically there because the active ingredients are pressed into a brick, to make sure everything dissolves evenly.
You should have citric acid already, some of that in your washing machine or washer should make it gleam like new.
As I usually mention in these types of posts, you're overpaying for convenience here - bulk buying basic chemicals like citric acid, sodium percarbonate (oxyclean active ingredient), baking soda, etc allows you to be much more versatile in what you do with them and it's cheaper too.
As for me, with our disposal I generally do what you do - ice, some soap, maybe a lemon or lime peel/whole that's looking kindy sorry, then blend while introducing a slight stream of water. All you're really accomplishing is maybe finishing off any food residue that's stuck in the unit and deoderizing.
