Shark ChillPill is a portable personal cooling fan that stands out for its bundled accessories and dry mist option. The Costco kit includes two straps that are sold separately elsewhere, while the Sam's Club version adds the mist attachment, wrist strap, and bike grip. The main concern is cooling performance, since the Peltier plate and fan setup is described as awkward, less compact, and questionable in hot or humid conditions. Review scores around 3.2 to 3.5 also raise quality concerns, making it feel like a pricey gadget with useful extras but uncertain real world cooling.
Commuters and outdoor walkers who want a handheld cooler with extra carry straps, because the bundle includes straps that would otherwise be bought separately.
People comparing portable cooling gadgets who want a fanless-style design with less dust cleaning, because the fan is described as avoiding the dust and jam issues of typical personal fans.
Buyers who need dependable cooling performance, because the device's cooling claims are questioned and the real-world cooling effect is described as weak.
People needing strong cooling in hot, humid weather, because the cooling attachment can underperform when temperatures rise and swamp-cooler style cooling struggles in humidity.
Several comments call the $99.99 price high for a small fan-and-cooling device, especially versus cheaper Amazon alternatives. The bundle does add Shark-specific straps and accessories, but the low review scores and missing mist adapter on the Costco version are cited as drawbacks.
The Costco kit includes the two straps and the accessory clip/crossbody-style items, but it omits the mist adapter that comes with regular 3-in-1 channels. The 3-in-1 boxes instead include the mister and a few extra plastic attachments, but not the accessory clip or body strap.
The cooling-skin attachment reportedly performs poorly in heat and may stop working when it is hottest outside, which is when you would want it most. The Peltier-style cooling claim is also questioned as inefficient and unlikely to deliver the advertised 15-degree drop in real use.
No, the fan attachment has to be used for fan mode, and the cooling plate requires removing the fan. The mist function on the 3-in-1 model is described as sacrificing both functions and lasting about 10 minutes.
The Sam's Club version is listed at about $99.98 and includes the mist attachment plus wrist strap and bike grip, but it lacks the clip and crossbody items included with Costco's bundle. For most use cases, that version is presented as the better swap if you want misting.
I didn't' realize it didn't have the mister - thanks!
welcome!
yeah the boxes that say 3-1 have the mister plus a few of those plastic wips or whatever that go with using the mister. but then it doesn't have the accessory clip or the body strap, which shark overprices both at about $24.99 ea.

I ordered this and also the one from Ulta to see if the one with the mister is really better. I found a coupon on Ulta for 20% off the 3 in 1 model - will probably post it.

How does this compare in cooling performance to the many no-name alternatives found on AliExp/Amazon? Like the no-name models, this uses a drone motor with a peltier plate in front of it, so the 15 degree cooling claim seems dubious. I'll admit the attachments are interesting, but nothing that can't be improvised. The form factor also throws me, as it's far less compact than most other designs.
From the reviews I've seen it's not worth it. To use the fan you must use the fan attachment. To use the cooling plate you must remove the fan. To use the mist (not this model) you must sacrifice both functions and misting lasts for about 10minutes. Seems very overpriced and a hassle to carry around the attachments.

Wait... so the fan is at the front of the housing instead of the back?
Does that mean the cooling plate has a completely separate fan built in, since it won't work without one? (Peltier plates work on hot-cold differential and require cooling the hot side to drop the temp on the cool side)
If so, that seems needlessly complicated.
I bought this for $15 and it doubles as a backup battery. Only downside is the crappy 3D printed plastic: https://a.co/d/0jj7Iogd

This thing is interesting, but I think the peltier plate will have a fan blowing out the other way because it is basically a heat pump where it need to dissipate the heat somewhere else or else it will just start to heat up...

No, it blows directly at the hot side to cool it.
The fact that it's blowing in the same direction as the cold side is not a factor, because you're supposed to make skin contact with the cold side and (hopefully) the ambient temp isn't over boiling temp.
A lot of thermal dynamics problems with real world applications make zero sense on paper if you stick to textbook definitions and classes.

Ah, I guess that's another way to do it... I made a "phone cooler" like 10 years ago with a peltier plate and stick a samll cpu fan with the copper heat sink and it blow air the same way. It's find to use it that way but it depends on where you put that thing, if it's like one of the picture where you put it on your neck I'm not sure I like warm air blowing close to the other area of the body...

That's where thermal (also, fluid) dynamics comes into play.
The thermal coefficient between ambient air and skin temp changes enough to feel cool. And you also have a circulatory system piping cooler temps away from the targeted area slightly, so it's not a closed system.
But if you're thinking of will cool without direct contact, it will not.

The Costco kit includes two straps that shoppers would otherwise need to buy separately.
The device can cool the hot side while the cold side is intended for skin contact.
The mister design may help avoid getting the face wet like a generic spray bottle.
The fanless-style approach may reduce dust and jamming compared with typical $15 personal fans.
The Costco kit omits the mist adapter that regular channels include.
The cooling-skin attachment reportedly stops working when conditions are too hot, which reduces usefulness.
The fan and cooling plate reportedly require swapping attachments, which makes operation feel like a hassle.
The portable cooling performance may be weak in swampy or humid conditions.
