The 98 inch QM8K stands out as a very bright mini LED TV that fits large, sunlit rooms and delivers a big step up in picture quality, dimming zones, and bezel design over cheaper TCL models. It is described as especially strong for daytime viewing, with impressive results after calibration and a picture that works well for 4K Blu ray movies. The main caveat is value, since the QM7K is often framed as close in performance for less money, and the Best Buy installation experience has ranged from smooth to frustrating. A strong fit when size and brightness matter most.

Common Questions (5)

  • The QM8K adds more dimming zones, slightly higher brightness, and a cleaner minimal bezel, while the QM7K is often described as the better value and the QM6K Pro as having more blooming. The QM8K can be worth the extra cost if you want the brighter, more premium picture and design, but the QM7K is close for about $1,000 less.

  • It can go very well, with professional installers handling mounting, stud placement, and even difficult moves into basements. There are also reports of repeated cancellations and no-notice scheduling problems, so the service appears highly location-dependent.

  • Yes. The QM8K is positioned above the QM7K for bright rooms, with slightly higher brightness and more dimming zones, and it is described as a strong fit for large, bright living rooms. The QM7K is already bright enough for many rooms, but the QM8K gives extra headroom if you want more punch.

  • It uses a different screen coating than previous versions, and some units or replacement remotes have been reported with backlight-related issues. A backlit remote may need to be specifically verified before buying a replacement.

  • Yes. The TV has been price matched at Best Buy for as low as $2,197, and AAFES was mentioned at the same $2,999.99 price with no tax and free shipping, though without installation.

Curious what people's opinions are on whether this is worth it over the QM6K pro at Costco?
I think the price will go lower but it's one of the best non-OLED TVs on the market. 98" is incredibly immersive.

This has been a great TV for my purposes. I was lucky enough to get this for $2,197.00 from BB when they price matched NFM in March.
BB price matched for me as well with free installation! Mounted with the full articulating Sanus mount.

Do you have the mount model? We are looking to mount this giant baby, but haven't found a good mount from Sanus.

I was in between the QM8K and QM6K Pro. I settled on the QM7K in the middle. I was able to see all 3 next to next and the 6K had too much blooming for my liking. The 8K was amazing but the 7K was like 95% there similar to 8K at 1K less so decided to pull the trigger. No regrets so far. Picture quality is sublime and screen size still wows me.

Do not buy large TVs from Best Buy based on installation. You'll likely have, at a minimum, numerous cancellations of visits, and ultimately silence from Best Buy requiring order cancellation. Personal experience (3 unilateral cancelations with no notice involving a 98qm8k) plus numerous comments here and elsewhere.
My experience has been the opposite. They came in and were very professional. They realized my stand wouldn't hit 3 studs which is important for a TV this size and let me re-schedule the meeting to the following week. The TV was going in my walkout basement and wouldn't fit from the stairs so they were able to pick it up and down the slope on the side of the home and get it in even with slightly snowy conditions.
I guess this is very location specific but overall I was happy with their service.

I second this, I have had nothing but excellent experience with BB, white glove service and all, this is why I will pay extra to buy from them as this is the last B&M store of its kind really... Magnolia is also a treat if you have one near you, as an audiophile I frequent there often just to chat with the well informed staff and look at new audio gear, hope BB sticks around forever. With that said: RIP Circuit City, RIP CompUSA, RIP Ultimate Electronics....

Is this TV really $1700 better than this 98" TCL Mini-LED TV? I don't get paying more than twice the price for the same brand, size, refresh rate, and type of TV, when it can be purchased for $1300.

it CAN be purchased but only if you live in those selected cities, big YMMV at that time

Pretty positive that all the "pro" gets you is a backlit remote + insurance from Costco. I bought the a 65 and 75 incher from Costco back during holiday season. I am trying to find replacement remotes with the backlight to no avail.
It gets a different screen coating, too.

Interesting. So it's a better picture? What does the coating do?

Look at the reviews. The one the reviewer received shows the backlight. I took the gamble and ordered one over the weekend, should be here next week
