It's not an exaggeration to say that these are an absolute necessity and game changer for any desktop environment. They free up desktop space while freeing you from the cruel punishment of having to choose undersized and inevitably underperforming tiny speakers with dinky, useless 2-4" woofers. Equally important is the dramatic audible improvement gained by elevating the speakers, so that reflections off the desktop are almost totally eliminated while the tweeters are closer to ear level, which can make crappy or mediocre sounding speakers suddenly sound quite tolerable or even enjoyable!

Speaker stands' top plates almost NEVER fit the footprint of a bookshelf speaker exactly...which is fine, because they simply don't need to. Most of the weight of the speaker is towards the front where the drivers are, so you just balance the speaker accordingly---common sense.

The more cautious folks will use Blue Tack, which creates a very strong, secure bond that somehow (whoever invented B-Tack was a genius!) easily comes off the bottom of the speaker without leaving any marks or residue years later whenever the speaker needs to be removed.
