Pretty good post OP, good deal if you're in need of a couple. Because of my Craftsman, not to say all or most are like this, test how easy it is to lock the measure. The Craftsman took way too much effort to lock it. Also, my Milwaukee magnetic compact, it likes to twist easily when extended, which is just incredibly disappointing. Test extending this Ryobi out, give it a little sideways turn, and see if the tape will not twist around and bend over. My Milwaukee, even just a small turn, extended out just 6 or 8 feet, it likes to twist, bend and fall, then I have to retract and try again, so frickin' annoying. But it works smoothly, and like the measures on both sides of the tape.
A feature of the Milwaukee, and noticed on DeWalt, probably some others, is the underneath finger brake. Holy cow, I didn't know it existed. It's just a simple notch where your index finger normally rests when holding it, but you can now use it to hold the tape with your finger. Sure you can do it already without a notch, but it's 1/2 inch difference to keep your finger in a natural position, haha. But to me, it's a crazy great difference and benefit, haha.
