They feel worse in the hand and usually the knurling is also pretty lame. Check out your local gym, they are almost guaranteed to have dbs with normal, cylindrical grips. I have the bow flex 1090s and I hate their contoured grip. Always debating getting the aftermarket, normal grip but probably better to sell them and get something else.

FWIW it's subjective. I have a full set of these and I prefer them to my straight bar ones. Feels more comfortable than a straight bar on my hands, particularly when doing offset grip for enhancing leverage/resistance in supination and what not

Agreed. The preference of the bar shapes are totally individual. Try them out yourself to ensure they are what you are comfortable with. Also, there are a lotof cheap or free bells out there so make sure to check NextDoor and Craigslist. My friends juat scored a complete 500lb set for free in near-mint for just being willing to pick them up immediately from a house seller.

You know I've never paid attention but that I have have the knurling and the weird contours. I don't think I've ever paid attention so I'm so used to it. Next time I see dumbbells I'm going to picture attention to the grip.

Agreed I have a full set (by a different manufacturer) and prefer them much more over the straight bars dumbbells.
