These SafeRacks overhead garage racks are praised as a sturdy way to reclaim floor space and store bulky or rarely used items above the garage door or workbench. The 4 by 8 size, adjustable drop range, and beefy construction make them useful for plywood, bins, tents, and other heavy gear, and the current $200 two pack is repeatedly described as a strong price versus past sales. Installation is doable for handy DIYers, but it takes careful measuring, stud finding, and patience, and some orders arrived with packaging damage or quantity confusion. A solid garage storage upgrade if you can handle the install and checkout details.
Common Questions (5)
It is a DIY-friendly install if you can measure carefully and find the trusses or studs. A stud finder, magnets, a drilling jig, and an impact driver help, and most installs are described as taking about 3 to 5 hours depending on skill and ceiling layout.
The deal was for a 2-rack system, but several buyers reported receiving only one rack or seeing the order confirmation change to a single rack. The Costco invoice and item number are the key documents for disputing the shipment, and tracking may show multiple packages when the full order ships correctly.
They are described as beefy and able to hold a lot of weight, with long-term owners reporting no issues after 4 to 5 years. For heavier loads, drilling through the truss and using a bolt and washer is suggested instead of relying only on the supplied lag screws.
The right setting depends on your garage ceiling height and what you want to store. For 10-foot ceilings, 45 inches was recommended; for 8-foot ceilings, 12 to 24 inches is the safer range, and the 12-14 inch setting can fit above a garage door with the deck around 14 to 15 inches total.
Yes, they can be configured to fit above a garage door, including as two 2x8 sections over a 16-foot-wide door. The center section can be split because the middle uses two slats per bar, while the outer ends use single slats.

Either way, if you need more storage in your garage, these are definitely the way to go.
Also, remember that you are installing these on the trusses that are holding up your roof (that already weighs tons) so the racks are best installed at the perimeter of the garage, and you don't want to push the weight limits too much.

1) How do I know whether they are compatible with these?
2) If they are compatible, how long will the installation take for one person?
FWIW for others reading, if you have access to the attic space above & intend to load up the racks with a lot of weight, you're better off just drilling straight through the 2x4 or 2x6 roof truss member and using a bolt & washer vs the supplied lag screws. Lag screws are probably fine though if you aren't going to put anywhere near max weight on these.

Which really is night and day price-wise. The quality of Gladiator products are good, so I really don't see that big of a price jump for the Costco version.
