It's a different charging method (direct link vs magnetic). Some people have cases that prevent a good magsafe charger from making a connection. Some people want to place the phone in a holder or stand while charging, and many magsafe chargers prevent that. And some people (like my parents) still have older pre-magnetic charging phone models.
