The PULSE Explore earbuds stand out most for PlayStation Portal and PS5 use, with fast pairing, low lag, and immersive sound that works especially well in supported 3D audio games. Battery life is solid, and they can also handle PC use, with some setups even allowing phone audio for podcasts while gaming. The main drawbacks are comfort, which can be poor without the right fit, and volume or bass that may feel underwhelming for some. At $149.99, they feel best suited to Portal focused gaming rather than general wireless earbuds.

Common Questions (5)

  • Yes. They connect immediately to the PS Portal without a USB dongle or Bluetooth setup and are described as especially strong in the PlayStation ecosystem. The soundstage is immersive, and they can be a solid fit if Portal use is the main goal.

  • They can get very loud for some games, but they are also described as not especially bass-heavy. A few users found them too quiet for their taste, so loudness may depend on fit, volume settings, and what you are comparing them against.

  • Battery life is reported at 3 to 4+ hours per charge during gaming sessions. That is enough for typical play sessions, though longer sessions may still require a recharge.

  • They had launch-era connectivity issues, but those are reported to have been fixed for many users. If drops still happen, moving the dongle to a front USB port on the PS5 is reported to help.

  • Comfort is a common weak point, especially for in-ear users. The included tips are reported to be too short for some ears, and following the fit instructions or swapping tips can help reduce ear pain.

These are the most uncomfortable earbuds i have used. I'd steer clear unless you have absolutely no alternative like in my edge case to play Rocksmith without delay.

They are pretty shit for $150 or even $50 honestly. Buddy is PS gamer that had them briefly. So I got trial test with my Samsung Galaxy Pro 3 earbuds from Best Buy for $55. Also compared to P30i soundcore I had for $25.
Galaxy Pro 3 buds blows them out the water. It is not even comparable. Mic work around took a bit but got a dongle receiver work with it on PS5.(for Pro3/P30I) test comparison.

Compared to the P30i. The Pulse buds are just slightly better(very minor). Soundcore P30i cost around $25-30 brand new.

Comfort wise. I did not notice any issue. My buddy actually has more comfort issues than I did. Didn't seem to fall out talking, yapping, jaw moving is when it tends to happen. Other time is running around but unless you doing something with VR. Should not be a problem.

So I would say theses buds are only worth $40-50 max. Pay anymore then you just paying for the brand name. Let's be honest. No one cares about PS as a brand name anymore.

My buddy tried my Buds Pro3 and was floored. He ordered a set from best buy and is returned these.

PlayStation peripherals have gotten way way too expensive.
Correct their controller not even worth it anymore. Gamesir makes a better one for $20.

The way I look at these products is you're buying the name. You wouldn't buy the new BOSE gaming console would you?
Sony has been doing audio since 1946, which is a heck of a lot longer than Bose, which started in 1964. They literally started as a radio repair shop.

These earbuds any good?
I've been using them since release and they are excellent when you use them in the PS gaming ecosystem (PS5/Portal), tried it on PC and it was very good as well, however ive had mediocre experience when hooking it up on my phone and tablet

Half the price of AirPods Pro MSRP. Think of these as HiFi TWS headphones (like AirPods Pro 3) that are pretty good Bluetooth headphones "also" have a gaming mode that is unusually low lag, much much better chat quality than Bluetooth, and CD-quality lossless wireless. Kinda like how controllers have Bluetooth and the more optimal 2.4GHz modes.

If you have a Portal, these are great and can be used for PS5. If you don't have a Portal, I have found Sony Inzone buds to be superior for PS5, PC, Switch 2 (2.4 dongle). Tips: If you do purchase Pulse buds, read through the wearing instructions as this critical to get the best fitment and avoid ear pain. Also, change out the Pulse tips, the ones it comes with are too short and uncomfortable.
