I have an older version of this model. It's fine, overall, but the frustrating thing about it is that the screen is nearly unreadable if you are wearing polarized sunglasses - a common thing to do while driving!

I wonder how this version's screen works w.r.t. polarized shades...

I bought this thing years ago, the XAVAX1000 is incredibly ancient by head unit standards.

It's still valued because carplay I believe came up with new standards and this is the only decent head unit you can buy under $500 that has an actual volume knob.

i got the XAV-AX3250 used on ebay for $140. check ebay for used first unless you feel the need for new. they barely ever modernize these units. dont think you can even change the wallpaper unless you buy the $400 model

Grumpy old man comment incoming; seems like head units do less and cost more today. Apple car play and Android Auto are just blessed apps that work through your head unit, wired apple car play in this one. I don't even know if they grey list functions if you get up to speed like inputting gps destination whilst moving. If they do then that stinks because if you have a passenger they could absolutely input that while you're driving. This head unit doesn't seem to have gps built in so it just uses your phone. As long as you have Bluetooth you could just use your phone for directions and music. Most phones are almost 7" now anyway. This doesn't have expandable storage that I can see. Maybe you use the usb to play media files? I'm glad I bought a Dual xdvd269bt when they clearanced them out for $40 at Walmart. I mean it would be cool if this Sony would play HD radio.

Had this for 5 years now. Love it. This and the ax200 are the only double din, volume knob, Android Auto head units from a good company. Highly recommend.

IDK how old these are now, but I had one in a car I got rid of 4 years ago, and it was in that car for probably 4 years after I bought it used on eBay. It worked pretty well but the screen was never great and I can't imagine installing one of these now.

Even when I bought this unit like 4 years ago it was one of the few with a physical knob. It's been pretty rock solid for me ever since.

I have a higher end version of this and you can just ground the parking brake. it won't lock out anything while driving. This is different than just using your phone as Carplay is an optimized experience for driving and much better. For example my tidal app only works in portrait mode and significantly more distracting on the phone

I used to play audio files from all sorts of storage, but does anyone really do that now or does everyone just use their phones? I thought I was slow to adapt to streaming, but even I don't have offline copies of very much on my phone anymore. And you are correct, no built-in GPS, although the built-in GPS in most headunits kind of sucks anyway. And this thing was a great unit but it's ancient, so IDK how there are still new ones available.
