Most fans will eventually have DC motors because they are more efficient than AC ones, at least that seems to be the trend. I suspect with the next Democrat administration in the White House, the EPA will pass regulations to that effect, which Pres Biden tried or proposed a few years ago. They do have some advantages because they are whisper quiet and can get REALLY powerful, but the biggest problem is that the cheap ones have issues with being able to go slow and provide a gentle breeze. Ours is pretty strong on the lowest setting which is ok for the TV room where it is but would be way too powerful for a bedroom. More expensive ones don't have that problem, but they can be quite expensive -- $200+.
