Is there much difference in performance between a 10'6" board and 11' board? In terms of tracking, speed etc?

tracking and speed has much to do with weight and paddle stroke. There is a little better tracking, stability, and speed the longer you go. I have 11' and 11'6" boards and for sure can tell the difference. If you are under 180lbs, the 10'6" should be fine and if you don't need the extra room for gear or dog. I'm over 180lbs and the 11' and 11'6" length is great and find that I almost always grab the 11'6" board due to it's length and width. It's more stable in current, waves, a bit faster, and glide (when you stop paddling) is straight. No wrong choice with either length. If new and learning the sport, I would go the longer lengths vs 10'6".
