Amazon items that are all the same but rebranded

I was trying to figure out how to post this and post it without being xenophobic so here it goes. Now days on amazon if you're looking for a specific items, but not a brand name you will often come across a wide array of items that look very similar but have different brand names. The prices are usually within 20% of each other and maybe a few outliers of way more expensive or dirt cheap. Sometimes the reviews are not existent or seem fake so they're hard to go off of. What is your personal strategy to choose which item you order in this case? It seems like researching is kind of fruitless. Maybe it's more like pick the cheapest and if it sucks, return it. I would like to hear other opinions. TIA
