Chicken of the Sea chunk light tuna stands out for cheap protein and a firmer, less mushy texture than many chunk light brands. It is also described as better for tuna sandwiches than the purée style, while still being the kind of tuna that can work as a topper or quick pantry staple. The main cautions are high sodium, mercury limits, and the fact that it is not complete nutrition for cats. A rinse can cut sodium, but the can is still best treated as a salty, occasional use item.
Chicken of the Sea chunk light tuna can deliver a chunkier texture with less mushiness than other chunk light brands.
Rinsing regular canned tuna under cold water for about three minutes can reduce sodium content substantially.
The purée-style tuna can work well for making tuna fish sandwiches compared with chunk pieces.
Canned tuna can serve as a cheap protein option even without the 20% coupon.
The tuna is high in sodium and lacks complete nutrition, so it should be used only as a cat treat or topper.
The tuna can be too salty for cats when used as food.
The tuna can taste nasty and stale even when the expiration date is far in the future.
Mercury in tuna can lead to a recommended limit of about three cans per week.
