The Legion Go S with the Z1 Extreme stands out as a comfortable handheld with a strong 32 GB memory configuration, a good non OLED screen, and solid performance for Steam games and Windows launchers. Dual booting SteamOS and Windows works well, and the extra RAM helps it run demanding titles smoothly. Battery life is the main weakness, landing around 2 to 3 hours depending on the game, and the trackpad is poor for mouse navigation. Open box units have also been described as arriving in mint condition, making it a capable but battery limited handheld.
Steam library players who want a Windows dual-boot handheld, because SteamOS runs buttery smooth and the Windows partition handles Battle.net, Epic, and Game Pass.
At this price, several comments say it is poor value versus alternatives like the ROG Ally X, Steam Deck OLED, or waiting for newer Intel-based handhelds. The main reasons are the high price and the Legion Go S's weaker battery life compared with some rivals.
Battery life is reported as a weak point, with roughly 2-3 hours depending on the game and less for heavier titles. That makes it fine for short sessions, but not ideal for long trips without charging.
Yes. The 32GB configuration is described as noticeably better than 16GB models on the same APU, especially for smoother performance and fewer memory limits in games.
Yes. A dual-boot setup with SteamOS and Windows is reported to work well, letting Steam games run on SteamOS while Windows handles Battle.net, Epic Games Store, and Game Pass titles.
Better get it while is cheap. The prices are not going down any time soon. If anything they might keep going up. Lenovo raised their prices, Steam Deck just did the same and soon so will Asus. I but the bullet and got a used Go 2 w/Z2 OLED for $950 on marketplace. I could justify the Z2E or the price.
These price increases will only cause less people to get into gaming and I can see the whole industry a steep decline.
800 dollars for open box in fair condition? Insane. The best way to respond to these price hikes is to let them rot on shelves. I'm glad I got my Legion Go 2 Z2 Extreme for the original launch price. Thank you for posting the deal though.
The prices on all the handhelds right now are not good.... But if you are in the market for one, I got an open box "excellent" last November and it was basically brand new.
The unit itself is great. I have found myself gaming much more. It's comfortable to hold and the screen is nice (Not OLED of course, but still good). The 32 Megs of RAM really make a difference vs other handhelds with the m this APU but only have 16 Megs. It runs everything I have thrown at it with decent frame rates and settings. You won't do a cross country flight without running out of battery, but can get 2-3 hours depending on the game (maybe more for less demanding titles)
The one call out is the track pad.... It's junk. Like can barely navigate a mouse pointer bad. If you are looking at using it heavily for whatever games you play, another unit might be .
Again, super pleased with mine.
Yeah. Because that's a bad deal. For that price, either Ally z1e or SD OLED are better options. Brand new too.
I'm talking about the Z1 extreme version.
the lesser Z1 version came out at the same time, 'OG' doesn't mean 'non extreme version'
the lesser Z1 models made-up like 5% of their sales, thing's are and were basically always irrelevant
if you know how to optimize the operating system the legion go OG z1e handedly beats the Ally and mops the floor with the Steamdeck.
$460 1tb and 2 year warranty on the OG legion GOs at one point.
(Everyone was afraid of refurbished like you're throwing the money out the window.) Still have mine, it was mint when I got it, still working perfectly
At this price I would rather have the ROG Xbox ally X. I've seen them as low as $810 open box on Best buy. Sure it has 24gb of ram instead of 32gb, but it has the newer Z2 extreme.

The device can run SteamOS and Windows via dual-boot, which keeps Steam games smooth while enabling Battle.net, Epic, and Game Pass access.
The 32GB RAM configuration can improve performance versus 16GB handheld models while still running the games with decent frame rates.
The open-box condition can arrive essentially brand new, making the purchase feel like a near-new unit for some buyers.
The Z1 Extreme model is reported to deliver strong performance after OS optimization and can still be working perfectly later.
Battery life is reported to be weak, with typical playtime around two to three hours depending on the game.
The trackpad is reported to be unusable for mouse navigation, which limits productivity or pointer-based gameplay.
The open-box deal price is criticized as poor value compared with alternatives like Ally Z1e or Steam Deck OLED at similar money.
Open-box purchases may require checking whether the unit is already registered before buying, which adds a potential hassle.
