Don't compare the Technics of today with the one from the 90s.
That's what I have read, as well. Reddit and a few other places mentioned these "dying" just before or after warranty period. Usually the battery in one of the buds goes through premature wear.
These are pretty highly reviewed by review sites but they don't really mention the longevity of these, which is questionable. Reddit users give those insights, though, after a year-plus of use. I will have to check older deal threads here on SD and see if the same complaints are mentioned there.
I have these. I liked them so much I bought a second pair as a backup. They are that good. My first pair, I use almost daily, still charges fine, but what I find happens is that the contact points get dirty and cause charging problems. The charge contacts on the headphones are small and difficult to clean because they are recessed. I find a toothpick tip works well to clean them, but I wonder if that is why people say the battery is dying.
