Dying Light: Essentials Edition is a first person parkour zombie game that stands out for fast movement, dynamic combat, and co op. The game is described as tense at night, with solid physics, vertical traversal, and a goofy, fun tone rather than pure horror. The $2.50 price is unusually strong, especially with an upgrade path to the Definitive Edition for $5.99. The main catch is that Essentials does not include all DLC or the major expansions, so the Definitive Edition is the fuller package. A strong entry point if you want the base game at a tiny price.

Common Questions (4)

  • No. Essentials does not include all DLC or the major expansions; the Definitive Edition is the version to get if you want the full DLC set.

  • Yes. The upgrade to the Definitive Edition is available for $5.99, which is the cheaper path if you already bought Essentials.

  • Yes. The game includes co-op multiplayer, so you can play through the zombie parkour action with others.

  • It leans more toward action than horror. The game is described as a Dead Island-style zombie game with parkour, tense night sections, and a slightly goofy tone rather than a pure horror experience.

I haven't really "gamed" in a decade or two - last I was into things was RE1&2 and silent hill, with SH haunting my dreams for a bit after. How does this compare in play, store and sheer horror?
games like this are 4k huge open worlds now but the remakes of re1&2 are great too

If you're familiar at all with Dead Island, it's almost exactly like that, except with parkour. There's no horror elements to it, it's just a slightly goofy fun zombie killing game.

I just tried the demo of RE9 and I have to say if you are looking for sheer horror ..look no further. I never get unsettled in games ..never have. And like you, I haven't gamed much in years...at least serious games. But, I have a Switch 2. I put in some good Sony wired headphones turned the lights off...and let's just say I jumped for the first time ever playing a game. And the entire demo (the Ashley part anyway) was very unsettling on the nerves. Haven't played the whole game, but from the short demo, I'm quite impressed. The setting, the lighting , surround sound, and visuals really pull you in.

It's not really that kind of horror title. It's like Mirrors Edge + Dynamic Combat + Dead Island 2. Better physics and collision physics than DI2 and more dynamic parkour than ME and it's pretty tense about 20% of the time(stealth/night missions-night grinding). It's really well made. Story is fair. Missions are interesting but it gets a little repetitive here and there. Highly recommended. Highly rated. Beloved zombie title.

it's a first person parkour hack and slash beat em up zombie title. The zombies get all over everything, including structures you're running on and between.. the parkour goes pretty vertical at times. The zombies are fast and relentless at night. Both sequels are fine, but the first game is the gem.

A fun playthrough of a game. At 2.50, hard to beat the value.

If you want unsettling RE games, look no further than 7.
