I agree this Pioneer seems over priced, but I have tried ATOTO, a Phoenix Tesla style android, and two other generics.... they all sounded pretty horrible.

My conclusion is that the generic Android units with Carplay just dont sound very good.

When I used to buy aftermarket, I went with Sony since it provided better sound and wattage to speakers. Also easier to add steering wheel controls.

Not slick. I just bought a JVC unit at Crutchfield for the same price with a larger, HD screen and wireless carplay

Exactly. If sound quality matters to you, then the components will drive retail prices to be around this point or higher. Any regular (home) stereo that does 200 watts or more and has good DACs are going to cost you this much and they won't have an integrated touch screen, OS, and apps. But hey.. what do I know?

Well, I definitely suggest avoiding all Generic Android units including ATOTO. I installed the android units mostly on cars with their own amp system. And they still sounded bad.

Pioneers havent let me down, but $500 IMO is too much. Its 22W RMS, 14W all channels driven. I am not sure why this unit is $500-$650? It has a disc drive, but I am not sure its worth 2x more than the Apline ILX-W670.

off topic, but I can't resist with you Audiophiles here. My 2015 Subaru Legacy mediaplayer has gone totally to crap. The screen was ALWAYS crap. What android head unit replacement would you suggest. I don't need graet sound. Just a unit that doesn't do random things and beep at me. I know I will lose maintenance things and don't care.

It also a basic unit for $500. The pioneer is focused on audio quality. 4v pre-amp vs 4v on jvc.
